Phanatic posted:How does that work? If 100 people pledge, then how isn't that 100 separate transactions regardless of how Patreon chooses to batch them? It is. What he's talking about is if you support 100 different people, you should only be charged once and have Patreon divide it up internally, rather than have them charge you (and the associated fees) 100 separate times.

Phanatic posted:How does that work? If 100 people pledge, then how isn't that 100 separate transactions regardless of how Patreon chooses to batch them? I think it's more of "Person X is subscribed to 8 different Patreon accounts", Patreon makes one charge to their card for the total amount they're pledged across all of those and then distributes that money to the different accounts, making it one transaction on the individuals card. Now it's "Person X is subscribed to 8 differnt Patreons" *charges processing fee on each of those 8 accounts despite it only being one transaction on the persons card*. I could be wrong though. efb

It's similar to Twitch, where if you're subscribed to multiple channels, your card gets hit on the anniversary date of your subscription to that particular channel, instead of all on the same day.

Also, currently if you have a patreon account and you are a patron, you can use payments that you haven't been paid yet to pay out to other creators. Under the new system you can't do that and you'll be charged a processing fee for money that was always Patreon's in the first place. Zipperelli. posted:It's similar to Twitch, where if you're subscribed to multiple channels, your card gets hit on the anniversary date of your subscription to that particular channel, instead of all on the same day. Yes, but Twitch foots those processing fees, it's a part of their cut.

Zipperelli. posted:I thought the broadcaster ended up paying the transaction fees, but like, it just came out of their check? Perhaps, and that's sort of how it works now with Patreon. But the thing is that literally every creator is okay with that because it's still more money than they'd get if they didn't have that subscriber in the first place. Pushing the processing fee to the Payer is ludicrously stupid.

See, this is what I was thinking at first, but then it also came out that Patreon still takes a further cut of what the creator gets. So while, yes, the creator is technically getting more by not paying the transaction fees themselves, they also still have an amount taken out of that money that is probably pretty close to what they were already losing. It's pretty blatant how much of a cash grab this is by Patreon.

They done got greedy during fundraising (as well as a sloppy round of overstaffing (IMO), so now they have to stay greedy to stay in business. Of course, I am not an MBA or your MBA, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

It was a Star Citizen demo reel so all it would've been was thinly-veiled copies of other iconic spaceships with as many identifying features scraped off as possible.
