To what end? Most of the people you execute under those scenarios are marginalized in the first place and the threat of a capital trial likely never entered into the decision making process that got them there. Keeping them separated from society and providing mental health services in prison is about as good of a solution as is available.

Now public corruption or abuse of power on the other hand, that's a good reason to lop some heads off. Make those motherfuckers think twice.

I think only a blood thirsty mob can judge and convict for "public corruption/abuse of power" I say as though there weren't enough Maga warriors who'd love to have put Barack on the guillotine for the abuse of power in the act of being black while president.

IANAL; but it seems most of the cases where pursuing first degree murder or violent rape (or public corruption, in glad to add that too) the perpetrators are already pretty dastardly human beings. It's not that you're punishing them as some sort of decision inhibitor for future criminals, because that doesn't really work even for minor crimes and jail time. It's that your ending their existence because they've crossed a line and letting them live out their lifespan in prison is a waste of everyone's time and resources.

Until we can better differentiate between guilty parties and dark skin we should probably leave capital punishment on the treason table. Because I think you worry about the same thing I do, where it's marginalized communities who get hit with these charges and punishments disproportionately. Right now life imprionment is the one way those falsely accused have a chance to appeal until maybe justice gets corrected.

I know, it seems counter-intuitive to tell a health care worker what drugs you do, especially at the VA.

In this video, we have Trump criticizing the independent judiciary, introducing and driving home the notion of “CRIMINAL ALIENS,” which obviously sounds more threatening than undocumented immigrants or even illegal immigrants, conflating DACA kids with said criminal aliens, and making it seem like the Reason why 1/5 Beautiful Americans won’t be home for Christmas is because of the hordes of Criminal Aliens running around raping and murdering while they flash their official Sanctuary City residence certificates. This is just a big, bloody hunk of red meat thrown to his base, and also, whoever did the lighting and camera work for that video should be fired.

Also to contribute to SouthChat- I really like Asheville, NC. It’s blue, hippy as all hell, and western North Carolina is one of the prettiest geographical areas in the country, at least for me. It’s tough to find good, professional jobs, though. I’ve spent some time in New Orleans and have enjoyed it, though I think Bourbon Street should be burned to the ground. The rest of the city is super cool, and the WWII museum is worth a day of your time.

On COIN,

It's hard to keep things going after building naked pyramids, burning Korans, and committing war crimes.

This is what I thought when I deployed. Now, though? We set ourselves up for failure, because the key to COIN is getting across to folks that-like us or not-they would be better off with us there. This is something as dependant on the State Department and USAID as it is on security provided by the DoD. It failed in Iraq because it was a half-assed afterthought helmed by people picked for party loyalty instead of competency, and it failed in Afghanistan because bigwigs with big egos were slapfighting each other.

Personally, I think we lost Iraq for the same reason we lost Vietnam. (1) We didn't know what the hell we were doing or why we were doing it, and (2) We tried to fight a war on a budget.
