One of the great things about Ross County making it to the premier is that I've mostly stopped being asked who my "big team" are. Though answering Stirling Albion to that always seemed to cause delightful frustration in those asking. In any case, it seems suitably left field enough to be able to slag both ugly sisters with relative impunity.

The nitty-gritty. https://twitter.com/BBCDouglasF/status/941314957945253888 So it's a slight tax cut for the lowest incomes and a slight rise for those on medium and high incomes.

Well, it's something I guess. Would have been fine with the lower rates staying the same but gently caress, this almost counts as radical by SNP standards, low as they are. Shame they continue to fail to do owt about council tax being a regressive piece of shite though.

Leggsy posted:The nitty-gritty. This is great news, and very glad to see the SNP (or any ScotGov) using finance powers in progressive ways. Small changes, sure, but the right direction and diverging from Westminster sets up some potentially interesting contrasts further down the road. Sadly in terms of progressive governance it's still somewhat undermined by the continued and relentless starving of local government, which always seems to be ignored or only glancingly mentioned in coverage: quote:The budget announcement included:

Pretty sure I know who people earning £150,000 who would cry about losing another £1k in taxes were voting for already.

Yeah, the SNP already lost any 1%er votes they had when they failed to secure independence and Salmond's planned corporation tax breaks vanished. A tax adjustment isn't going to hurt them now. Somerset Webb is wrong on one point, however: it'll only steal their second skiing holiday.

I guess the UK government delaying its gender recognition changes after the daily flood of moral panic from the press means we've got to have ourselves a moral panic on Scotland as well. Maybe a bit more difficult given that the organisations running the supposedly-under-threat women's spaces in Scotland have come out in favour of the change but I'm sure they've just been forced to say this by the all-powerful trans lobby. Luckily the SNP has never ever announced a good policy and then walked it back on the fear it might change something for somebody somewhere so all should still be good. For those wanting to feel like they're doing something to counteract whatever Stu thinks he's doing, the consultation is still open until the start of March. There's a nice website here explaining succinctly what the issues are, but for some reason they don't mention the 100% inevitable result of the legislation where all women's toilets everywhere are abolished so they're probably hiding something I guess.

Many Scottish nationalists are very excited at the idea of another referendum this year. It’s going to be fascinating to see it play out if that is the case - I can’t see Westminster going along with it. Will Sturgeon do a Puigedemont?

I liked the story on the news tonight about the former Scottish Tory treasurer who got banned from holding a directorship because he tried to hide assets after bankruptcy has been running businesses through proxies. And living lavishly. And the people who should be enforcing it have gently caress all in the way of money to actively check up on if the convicted fraudsters are committing fraud again. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-42597623 Can't post the article as on a phone but you should read it.
