In America? None. No one without a crispy hundred million or more would see a cent of that.

America has a systematic chain of problems top to bottom and there's only one way out, and it's the same way out France took at the end of the 18th century. Destroy the oligarchy, nationalize their assets, use the biens nationaux to rebuild the nation from the ground up.

Of course in this day and age, destabilizing the top end of every major corporation in the western hemisphere will almost certainly collapse the global economy and potentially society as a whole, but at least we'll get to break out the guillotines and live out some serious Mad Max poo poo for a few decades.

It'd be worth it. The stories told to subsequent generations would hopefully ward them off from rebuilding the pre-collapse world.

I worked for Koch Industries in the late 90s during a break in service. I wrote interface software for their asphalt operations. It was pretty standard stuff. There were tables used that determined the varying volumes based on temperature and other factors. I noticed that the laws of physics applied to everywhere except one location. I dug into it and realized that location happened to be an Indian reservation in Oklahoma. Being naive, I asked my boss about it and was told they had a special contract.
That didn't seem right, so I dug some more and realized that the poor Kochs were ripping off the Natives because gently caress them, I guess. I helped blow the whistle on those fuckers Sometimes I wish I had choked out Charles Koch when I rode the elevator with him, the world would be a better place.

I always sorta assumed that living in the US was kinda like here in Europe slightly rebranded and couldn't explain the political radicalism but this year I've really started to understand how hosed up it is. There was this article about how some poor people living in cheap housing near industrial plants were hosed to a point where after two generations they think that having asthma is just normal, the lead thing, and recently I read this piece about some low-pay worker guy who just sorta naturally expected to be literally homeless for a bit every time he loses a job and between that and this latest tax bill I get the guillotine talk now.

Every conversation I have about giving medical or housing assistance to someone inevitably drifts to whether they "deserve it" or not. I do not care whether someone hosed themselves over or was hosed by fate, disease, etc. I do not care why someone is in poverty, today. I do not care if it ruins someone's "work ethic" by receiving assistance. There are idiots and assholes in every city, every state. I don't care if Joe Methhead wastes his life and OD's if he had access to therapy/counseling, medical care and housing, etc. Nobody deserves to die in the streets, regardless of circumstances.

I also do not care if giving some rear end in a top hat state assistance makes them climb the social ladder and land closer to someone who is working their rear end off. Work should be rewarded, but life isn't fair and I'd rather have a social safety net in place in case either of us lose our jobs or get struck by super cancer.

Sorry for the rant. This time of year, the conversations I have shared with friends/family, many of them Christians makes me disappointed and sad. If the standard of living that the 1% has right now is unsustainable for even another percentage point of the global population to reach, what does that say about our priorities and how utterly hosed we are?

Lol what? I don't blame every single problem on them. I can just recognize that political extremism in both directions is dumb and dangerous. You, on the other hand, constantly whine about anyone who doesn't meet your strictest tests for ideological purity, as if the world operates on some sort of absolute binary scale of people who are and aren't sufficiently liberal.

The dumbest thing is that you and I probably support a lot of the same policies. I think we should have UHC, should subsidize apartments for the homeless, and should tax the hell out of the rich. But your assertion that everyone must adhere to your rigorous standards is incredibly off-putting and turns off more people than it turns on, and reduces support for candidates who would otherwise be supportive of these issues.

I spent part or my early 20s working at clubs that brought in a lot of anarchist bands and saw my fair share of people who insisted Mao and Pol Pot were perfectly justified in doing what they did and plenty of others who sold all of their poo poo to go live in hippie communes. So yeah, GiP has a way to go.

My one legit actual far left (he's definitely a communist at this point) loves Glenn Greenwald and gets super upset any time I bring up Russia being lovely. Usually it results in some whataboutism from him, so basically he's a useful idiot for Putin at this point.

Just money. There's just not enough money to install it everywhere.

The real problem is because we always have the American need to "do something" we've only deployed the system partially instead of waiting until we could make it ubiquitous.

Much like Volvo's decision to skip the vaguely defined level 3 autonomy, or the Air France disaster over the Atlantic, people suck at keeping it together when they think the system can save them.

Train engineers either need to be able to fully rely on trains slowing themselves or they need to be on point and do it manually. Relying on a patchwork of sometimes automated systems just makes people fail at maintaining positive control.
