No idea. But the DeLorean has been seen in the trailers. All sorts of stuff has been, including stuff that wasn't mentioned in the book (for example: Tracer).

I can only assume they have to play something to the various IP holders, but I can also readily assume that people were willing to do it for free or next to nothing.

Actually, they probably paid the movie people for the privilege of being involved with such a groundbreaking piece of art.

"Standing on the left side of the runway was my battle-worn X-wing fighter. Parked on the right side was my DeLorean. Sitting on the runway itself was my most frequently used spacecraft, the Vonnegut. Max had already powered up the engines, and they emitted a low, steady roar that filled the hangar. The Vonnegut was a heavily modified Firefly-class transport vessel, modeled after the Serenity in the classic Firefly TV series. The ship had been named the Kaylee when I’d first obtained it, but I’d immediately rechristened it after one of my favorite twentieth-century novelists. Its new name was stenciled on the side of its battered gray hull. I’d looted the Vonnegut from a cadre of Oviraptor clansmen who had foolishly attempted to hijack my X-wing while I was cruising through a large group of worlds in Sector Eleven known as the Whedonverse."

There was a GBS thread that was just people posting excerpt after excerpt. That is an actual part of the book, by the way. That's all the book is. Reference after reference after reference. It's just a really bad book.

As the whole scheme seems to be winding down (or is the lawsuit the start of a new chapter?) I’ve been thinking a lot about endings. Because if there is going to be a ending to this thing, there are going to be a lot of lasts. Many of them we’ll never get to know, their contributions will be hidden in confidential files and other dark places unlikely ever to see the light of day. Here are some soon to be unsung figures and moments. Are they in the future or the past?

* The last person to ever pledge. Probably a whale, desperate to fund this thing past the ever receding finish line. This person is probably in the future.
* The last person to buy (and the last person to sell) a grey market ship.
* The last new person to buy in to Star Citizen. This person is the most interesting to me. Not the invested fools trying to untangle themselves from sunk cost fallacy, but the last person to come to this thing fresh and think “yeah, sounds good, I’m in.” Maybe this person is already known. Maybe SC exhausted its ability to attract new money ages ago. Or maybe there are still new citizens to come. Maybe it’ll be The Titanic.
* The last person to check in code to the SC/SQ42 repository.
* The cast and crew of the last ‘Round the Verse.
* The last SC stream.
* The last Chris Roberts stage appearance.
* The last PC Gamer cover story.
* The last Spectrum post.
* The last version number.
* The last concept ship.

It will be me. I will, at the last moment, spite pledge for a completionist package because I will angrily shake my fist at fate and know that CRs godlike hand has been coding all night just for me.

When I do this, I will demand that he bring a stuffed titanic toy to trial, and when he takes the stand he will rub it vigorously along the surface near the microphone, so as he talks there is a constant “shhhhhuuhshhshsjiushhshshsh” sound that annoys everybody.

This is my whale demand.

I was born at the beginning of the 80s. It took me some time to be able to a) remember stuff and b) input stuff into a keyboard. Thus I remember the 80s mostly as playing Elite, Defender of the Crown, Prince of Persia and Monkey Island, before moving on to Doom. It was a good time for me.

I too was around, and it's loving hilarious how it's metastasized. For example, the British punk scene was a reaction against the concept of 'no future' against the background of the western european theater; the eighties were largely bleak until we drew back from the edge in '84/'85.

On the other hand, John Hughes and the brat pack.

Everyone of the age that informed us is going to start dying soon, sparking waves of nostalgia and spending. They've already had a couple of false starts, but the movie remake mill is still hitting up 1980s poo poo. I'm still waiting for the rise in Russia as the bad guy again.
