Yet, bitcoin, like MLM's and ponzi schemes, require that you advocate for it to get more people to throw cash in the fire to raise the price.

MLMs being the least evil because there is a theoretical way they could be run without loving over the low level distributors.

But in this world running an MLM cab get you the department of education.

The only way I’ve defended bitcoin is through my use. I bought in early enough that I’ve more than “made my money back.” I never intended to pull any out and just use it for drugs. I put a hundred in it over a year ago and I have spent money and still have more than that in it.

I knew that anything beyond that was stupid. It’s like buying in game currency or adding money to your steam wallet. Cool! Thousands of dollars in skins or whatever. Pay your mortgage idiot.

Look: As long as you went into bitcoin realizing it was pretty much just a penny stock that you might loose anything you invest into it: Cool, you're golden.

Its the guys who went and thought it was the next generation of currency and banked their homes on it that are laughably idiotic.

Yeah it’s hilarious that people might lose their homes.

Those young people who bought $200k homes on <$35k income (laughably idiotic) and lost it all when the market tanked gave me a hearty guffaw.

Those are also poor personal investments. You don't do that. And frankly, that is pretty sad that they'd make that choice to begin with.

*Tries to buy a home in Bitcoin. Fails due to fluctuating prices and 7 transactions per second worldwide being used for drugs*

There is a difference. Bitcoins limitations are well known and acknowledged. It literally can't expand to replace currency unless you buy in so hard that you believe a wizard will appear to fix it.

Buying a home pre crash wasn't predictable. There were some signs but even an informed consumer would have a slight chance at spotting them.

Bitcoin tells you it sucks. Unless you only read coin blogs. Then dump your college savings into it.

Bitcoins are casino tokens in a casino where there is no cage to cash them in. The only thing you can do with them is buy cocaine from the casino's dealers.

My sympathy is reserved for those who get hosed in life through absolutely no fault of their own such as economy crashing, natural disasters, war, etc. Anyone stickikng their dick into a god drat blender while everyone is shouting DON'T STICK YOUR DICK INTO THE BLENDER deserves absolutely zero loving sympathy.

Dude sounds like huge goonlord

Philanthropy is rooted in a desire to help those close to you and therefore is ultimately selfish, and other angsty teen takes.

I'd argue it looks more like when philanthropy's only function is to help your bottom line/be used as a tool then THAT is definitely selfish but w/e I'm not a billionaire spending all his time musing on the meaning of life with that level of trash being the best I can come up with.

I need to go into business selling the things that fuel the feelings rich people have that there's more than their money that separates them from other people. If I can do that I'd have it made, or perhaps suicide out of despondency I guess.

If crypto were just a bunch of goonlords quietly getting rich or going broke I don't think anybody would care, I know I wouldn't. Hell, if you bought into BTC when it was cheap and you were able to make some money on it, congrats!

The problems I see are that everybody that bought cheap suddenly thinks they are a finance and/or economics genius, which had lead to crypto stuff bleeding into the mainstream in a kind of dangerous way. I've seen multiple reports on TV during the old people broadcasts (4-6pm) talking about what crypto actually is, which is leading to people that have no business loving with crypto buying high and then losing their rear end during a correction.

Also, it kills me that nobody can explain what its actually useful for in a legal sense.

As a sidenote: I would totally use crypto to bet on sports and play poker online since it gets around the wire act and banking stuff, but lol if you are ok with paying those kinds of transaction fees and dealing with the process times.
