The big firefox update breaking gifs is a big driver behind me shifting to chrome. How the gently caress, mozilla?

Tried restarting your PC or updating your video drivers? Video suddenly became purple/green tinted (like getting the chroma subsampling mixed up) after I updated to Quantum on a Windows PC.

A great many restarts since then. I don't have the multicolor striping issue. My gifs just don't play anymore, even if I open them in their own tabs. Haven't tried checking for driver updates since I didn't see how that could be an issue.

Hardware acceleration is a pretty big thing in getting 30000 videos per page to render smoothly. nvidia and amd are both quite poo poo on both hardware and driver side, and browsers are poo poo on software side (bugs, bugs everywhere), so if you're having issues, the first thing to check is for new drivers. 99% of the time that's fixed my issues on either vendor. Oddly, I never have issues on intel drivers on linux tho (but opening the gif thread makes my chomebook real loud) here's some content you can't see: https://i.imgur.com/Eg8yATJ.gifv

I had the same issue because I used a gif-pausing extension that apparently sets the about :config setting for animations to disabled. When Quantum removed the extension, it didn't re-enable that setting. Don't remember it off the top of my head, but a google search will find the instructions. That said, even fixed, Firefox is gagging and choking on this thread, while Chrome displays all the gifs fine for me. Previously it was Chrome that was choking and Firefox with that extension was my way out. It's like a cycle from one to the other every year or so.

This is probably it, since I was using a GIF toggling extension that isn't supported any more. The gif thread was murdering firefox until I could tell it which gifs to load individually. Even disabled by the update it probably didn't switch gifs back on. Not sure if I'll bother checking, I seem to have settled in to Chrome just fine for the moment. Edit: The Quantum update got my dad to switch back to chrome as well, was pretty good validation when I heard that. I can’t remember if it was in this thread or the meme thread but I’m looking for the .gif of a guy spinning around a butterfly knife & mid-spin it slow-motions to the upside-down 👌 hand gesture meme.

Makes sense!
