I overrode the usual duck:gently caress auto correct on my phone, and the ONE time I had the need to send a txt referencing a duck - the phone changed it to gently caress. "Hey grandma, where did you want me to buy that gently caress from?"

How. The way I was able to properly type gently caress was to make a contact named “gently caress loving”

My autocorrect is disabled on my phone, but it still randomly changes words, especially if I go back and edit them after finishing a sentence. It's a crappy $60 LG, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.

After the latest OS version update, my Android phone developed a habit of doing the best combination of all: it keeps both the orignal and the autocorrected word! So instead of duck or gently caress, it gives me duckfuck.

I just used "gently caress" and it's variances enough that eventually my phone recognized and added it to my "learned words"

That is still one of my favourite images on the internet.

Every time I have to reinstall or update Windows, part of me dreads seeing a message like that.

Also, even google knows it now:

What photo is this? Googling [my autocorrect is functioning ngrmadly] just turns up a lot of stuff from damnyouautocorrect.

I seem to remember someone figuring out exactly what caused that. Maybe it was a couple of people, I can't remember exactly. I want to say it happened in a yospos thread? Maybe it was just mentioned there, idk.

Like, there's one specific failure that could cause those specific characters to show up, it was noise on a specific line on a video memory bus or something to that effect. It was some awesome turbo-geek CSI.

Yeah, that part's pretty straightforward. I wish I could find the further explanation of why it only happens to some characters and not others.

every 4th character has the same bit forced to zero, some of them would've had that bit at zero anyway and don't look broken.

So, more generally:

The same bit of every 32 bit word is zero because of hardware failure.

I use Swype and I'm pretty sure it auto-corrects by default. But it's a simple toggle in the settings, and if you give it your email address, your custom dictionary persists across devices.
Don't swype-based keyboards have to autocorrect because you're not necessarily making it completely obvious which letter you wanted to hit? Or am I like an old who doesn't know how to use modern smartphones?

You can still tap-type on a swipe-enabled keyboard.

When swiping it puts the word it thinks you most likely meant into the text field and offers a bunch of alternative suggestions in the list for you to select, or if it guessed right you can just move on to typing the next word.

Okay, this video is one of the Trailer Park Boys, and what is supposed to make it funny is how OSHA it is. But the actor doing these "stunts" made me cringe in fear. Kind of surprised he agreed to do some of this.

Good stuff starts at about 1:50.

Fill your copper pipes with finely ground salt ($0.90/kg at Woolworths) when you're shaping them (unless you have a proper mandrel, then use that). They'll still kink if you're determined, so keep that in mind. Really don't use soldered or sweated joints.
