Back to the yellow GC8 - gearbox out, turns out the thrust bearing did indeed fail. Clutch and pressure plate fine. Slave cylinder however is hosed.

Spigot, thrust bearings being replaced, flywheel being chnaged over for a almost new one, new clutch, pressure plate is fine and rummaging to get a slave cylinder.

Clutch still okay tho I suspect it's copped a lot of abuse. Telltale signs there of lots of heat

Flywheel ... yeah reusable with some machining. Again abuse signs there

Annnnd there's our culprit..... completely destroyed with loads of abuse signs. For some odd reason the noises at the back of the engine are either gone or a lot quieter.

Edit : Just reading back on this insanity to this point last year....hard to believe whats happened and just how much I've actually done on any number of cars. Yeah sure everyone whose reading is reading mainly for the next loving Subaru but GG there's been a lot outside of that.

Fun fact - a Levorg rips the Old Pac to pieces and barely has four wheels on the ground at any time doing it. Also manual shift down under brakes and through corners while letting it shift up coming out of a corner is fastest. Traction control is best kept on as with all the wheel lifting the torque vectoring / open diffs arent happy.

I think the rest of the service crew are trying to work out how to get one as well. Most common thing said... "THATS a CVT? WTF, it feels like a good 8 speed"

Bloody amazing thing to do 600 kms straight.

Rally report coming. 18th WRC, 6th ARC

(I need a hug)
I wish I could have been there :( Problem was still sorting out kid custody, income (so far it's been busy selling nearly everything on gumtrree), the falcon ute gearbox may be dodgey so I haven't gone so gung ho on the licensing cost yet.
I really wanted to rock up with the fixed falcon and tools as a support vehicle though :( If only for me to get away for a short while.

Once the kid situation is sorted out and if the falcon ute gearbox is good after a fluid change I still plan on heading east if only to look for bmw parts. There's nothing much here in WA for them and I want a m54b30, a man g/b and some e34 bits. Of course there's a higher chance of a s5x too over there.
E: the falcon ute would be a nice car to either take over there and get a new tub and get those bmw bits, camp with, or just drive and see what happens...

drat this has been a while since actual car content

Back up at the garage to get the yellow WRX working again. Its had idle and starting problems the last time I looked a month ago so..... okay battery was flat.

But before that I had a look at the idle control sensor at the top of the throttle body (just in fromt of the intercooler up the top)

Annnd.... well. It's loose. I can wiggle it around. That's not good. Noted that the screws holding it on were munted so someone has already had this problem..... annnnd there is an o-ring that simply not where it should be. Reseat it all properly and it idles!

Next problem - the tyres are poo poo. 205/40 on 17" makes the car far too low to be legal and do poo poo like get over speed bumps. I like these rims a lot so I need to put on my spares. Not loving easy with a car that is only 5 cms off the ground in places.

gently caress that was hot out there. But it's now running and legal height again (amazing what 225/45's do). Also the knocking noises are basically gone, it was mostly the throwout bearing that self destructed all along.

Plus I'm not a person from either Meditteranian or Middle Eastern background. I dont buy into the white privledge bullshit usually but I know quite well if I wasnt a middle aged white guy I'd be defected in a second wether the car was legal or not.

if I haven't posted about MY LANDCRUISER yet, check my bullbars for kangaroo prints

Only in your state... Pick a state with no vehicle inspections like SA and you've gotta actively irritate a cop to get your junk defected. We took a half million km old hilux with an engine swap to motor reg for a roadworthy inspection a few weeks ago, they found 8 defects with it, but only issued a notice that repairs were required, not a full blown defect sticker.

WA cops definitely still go after people under 25 in Japanese imports, and probably started going after middle eastern looking people since I was really active in those circles, because it's currently the done thing in Australia.

I know that I was never harassed after 25, but I also drove clean cars without body kits or ostentatious (or good tbh) looking rims, never bothered with adjustable coilovers, vanity plates, or other cop bait nonsense.

Also holy poo poo, I'm in Auckland at the moment and it's import porn. If you like 90s/00s JDM, you really must.

It was like that when I was last there.... I think 2002??? Wellington was even more amazing. Basically NZ takes all the JDM that gets taxed off the roads

Anyyyyway.....

Forester - finally fired it up for hte first time in 3 months (GG really????) to find hte power steering leaking like a bitch. Found hte high pressure line was cross threaded..... and fixed hte thread with a jewellers file and some vogon engineering. Leak fixed. Cleaning the car tomorrow to get it blue slipped an a return to action

Yellow peril (I *really* need to get a better name for that car) - seems I also have a earth leak somewhere (I think the sunroof) - battery dead. Jumped it, drove it, made a nuisance of myself with the SUV driving mums and dads looking in disgust. Idle is better. Now at it's new home while I begin to fix a few other bits and pieces.

3 MONTH LEVORG REVIEW

I *STILL* love it. Absolutly no buyers remorse and also a couple of ummmmm..... enthusiastic?..... drives later, it really is a drat good thing.

What would I change? REAR SHOCKS. Yeah I found a without qualification fuckup here. The valving is a joke on a roughish road or lets say you take a speed bump too quick - the back end leaps in to the air and then bounces back to the bump stops. I cant work out why Subaru messed that one up so obviously, I havent driven a 6 star car with such misbehaviour over bumps. Now I know WRX stuff dops straight in so I'm considering a shock change to tune out this problem... or I might report it as a warranty issue when it's up for a service.

The CVT.... still passable. Any other gearbox type would be better tho. Maaaaaaybe the 6 speed conversion down the road........

I'm also going to report a problem with Eyesight where it seemed to disables itself in humid andd hot conditions.

However I *love* the fact a year after that loving Liberty it hasnt wilted in hot weather at all. A reliable car abeit one that costs a bit of money is a wonderful thing.

Edit : Ive managed to drop the lifetime economy of the car from 11.4l/100km to 10.5l/100km... and while I've owned it, over 6700kms, I've gotten 9.6l/100km. Subaru's claim of 8.8l/100km combined is laughable

Theres no difference in suspension between the GT-S and SpecB so... yeah I dont loving get it. How he hell do you balls up Bilstein valving rates I have no idea.

In all honesty this is the first time I can say Subaru fundamentally inexplicably hosed up with suspension settings and at some point Ill have to fix.
