If they want a self contained story with some good animation F/Z is fine.

If they want just well animated action there’s other series that will better meet that need.

It sounds like they have their eye on fate though and it’s all over Netflix so just go for it.

I guess I just don't know what to really say, I like the Fate franchise but have little to no passion for any of the animated works as stand alone things. Do whatever I guess?

The fight where the kings team up against Caster is really fuckin cool, but I agree that there are a lot better shows for action scenes.

I really liked F/Z but hate the rest of the Fate franchise, so

Stepan Andreyevich Bandera being the most prominent example of that

I want to watch some newer anime while at work, but obviously don't want to run into cheesecake-y fan service and super ultra-violence. Can you recommend out of this list or any SFW anime?

ACCA: 13 Territory Inspection Department
Gamers!
New Game!
Land of the Lustrous
Princess Principal
Made in Abyss
Girls Last Tour
Little Witch Academia
Ancient Magus Bride
Restaurant to Another World
March Comes In Like A Lion

Thanks in advance

Fate/Zero was a light novel prequel to Fate/Stay Night which was the porn VN, so I was technically wrong.

Fate/Zero is a light novel prequel to fsn. Fsn is an eroge with a few pornographic scenes that take up a fraction of a percent of the actual read time, and have been excised from / replaced in just about every subsequent release and all adaptations.

I watched the 1st season of March Comes In Like A Lion over Christmas and it's completely innocent and wonderful :3:

Only bad thing is that it's a bit heavier on actually knowing how to play shogi than I would have expected compared to thematically similar shows - such as Chihayafuru which pretty much teaches you the game as you go along and doesn't rely on any game knowledge beyond the absolute basics. OTOH it got me interested enough to look up the rules of the game which is far more different from chess than I ever realised!

Ancient Magus Bride
Restaurant to Another World

the only cheesecake in ACCA is literal cheesecake
gamers has fanservice but it's isolated into the end-of-episode guest art, the show itself is fine
new game has some goofy fanservice but it's not overwhelming and the first season is fun, and the second season has a hell of a lot of heart
land of the lustrous only has ultra-violence if gem people breaking in half makes you squeamish
princess principal has a 20 year old who uses her boobs to seduce guys sometimes and that's basically it
made in abyss is not remotely what you're looking for if you don't want violence
girls' last tour doesn't really have any violence except against desolate buildings, but it does have a couple episodes where they swim around in pools and baths
little witch academia is super family-friendly and goofy
ancient magus bride is fine

i haven't watched restaurant but i've seen a few episodes of march lion and there's not even much room in the premise for violence or fanservice

yeah lol overall i'd say basically everything in that list is fine except made in abyss and a couple episodes of glt. new game can get sorta cheesecakey in s1 so maybe that too, but the worst of it is in the ova and season 2 is actually notably less fanservicey. made in abyss is the last thing you want people to look over your shoulder and see though

i don't really remember any individual fights in the 11 episodes of fate/zero i watched having anything more interesting than barrages of flashy cg. apocrypha has some serious issues with still being way too talky but even the first few episodes of that had way more going on with the action that made it actually fun to follow

i don't even think ufotables is a bad studio cause the less cg-heavy stuff they've done that i've seen looks beautiful, i just hate the style they use for stuff like f/z

Trimmed to stuff I've seen that I've seen (the only one I haven't is Restaurant to Another World, but it's probably fine) and don't think would offend many sensibilities at a glance. Since I'm not familiar with your workplace and needed a good barometer, I'm using Princess Principal. I think you should watch the first two episodes at home before anything else, for a couple reasons. First, I think it's really good. Second, If by that point you'd think be cool watching it at work, the rest of the list is also probably pretty safe.

e: oh right, New Game S1 was a thing.

LoTL and LWA have zero objectionable content and are super good. Some might say Land of the Lustrous is the anime of the year!

ACCA is great, and of what I've seen has nothing NWS whatsoever, but I haven't finished it so I can't give a full report.

Princess Principal has occasional murder, though it's not graphic, and Dorothy occasionally shows some skin (though I can't remember anything more risque than a very low-cut dress). It's probably fine, and one of my favorite animes of the year.

Restaraunt from another world has a lot of cheesecake in the first episode with boob dragon lady, but not much after that. Haven't seen the rest of the stuff on the list.

Rage of Bahamut - Genesis is a classic fantasy adventure with some great swordfights. My Hero Academia had some great superhero battles last season.

If you want crazy action, One Punch Man, Kill La Kill and Symphogear are the heavyweight champions of insane anime visual spectacle.

All of these are within the last five years or so; I'm sure there's great stuff from a little further back that's slipping my mind.

I feel like we are getting to trap sprung territory but, I don’t think that was ever the case, and certainly not in the Réalta Nua version (which has been the predominate version for like a decade). There are instances of masters and servants having relationships but it’s an exception rather than a rule.

I only remember three major uses of CG in F/Z, actually: Berserker, The Air Ship, and The Cup + mud

Yeah, the last one looked bad, but I thought the dogfight looked awesome. And Berserker was purposefully CG because his weird rear end ability is supposed to make him look unnatural.

it's a really good show but lol if anyone comes by during the scenes where yagami is featured in her undearwear

I tried watching a bunch of animes from 2016 and 2017 seasons recently, and the three that really clicked were Flip Flappers, Land of the Lustrous, and The Ancient Magus' Bride. Especially Flip Flappers, which I'm pretty sure is my second favorite anime now after Monster. Everything else I've tried, I've bounced off pretty quickly

What else should I look into from the last couple years if the animes listed above are my jam? Ones written by women (or based on manga / LNs written by women) would be a neat bonus given the trend so far, but it's far from a requirement

Okay, I've seen a few people here and in other threads, and outside of adtrw, mention made in abyss and how it's a travesty or the worst ever but not in specific words, like "nobody should ever watch it" and such. So lay it out for me, as someone who's not watched much anime or paid attention to any in the last few seasons, what about it makes it such a heinous crime that people post about hating it, but sometimes sound like they're being ironic? Is it a trash fire of a series, or objectifying in the worst way, or a Narutaru type thing, or what? Or is it actually good and people are bein' all sly

It's a really good show. There's a couple...questionable jokes about underage characters that I'd really rather wish weren't there, but they account for like a sum total minute of the show, and imo they aren't nearly bad enough to ruin the show, which, once again, is really good.

Also it gets really violent, which a lot of people don't like and turned them off after a pretty light first couple episodes.

I didn't watch the show but I read a large chunk of what was translated of the manga right before it aired and it skeeved me out to the point that I refuse to support anything related to it.

I was actually reading it initially because I'd kinda written the whole thing off as being too gross and wanted to make sure I wasn't judging it too harshly so I went in trying to give it a fair shake and was completely blindsided by the pervasive creepiness.

it's a beautifully illustrated manga and beautifully animated show with a really interesting, well-realized world that's not afraid to dive into displaying exactly how hosed up its setting is while still constructing a pretty decent story around the main cast

it's also created by a literal pedophile
