heyHEYYYY!!!
I want to create a Kickstarter where donators will decide whether my new podcast/YouTube channel will be about feminism, or about men's rights. I just want money, and can spew whatever ideology people giving me money want.

I also do not intend delivering on my promises.

I need some help finding proof of an old kickstarter or indiegogo, one that was mercifully canceled. I don't remember the name, or how long ago the kickstarter was.

It was a sex toy and it looked laughably ill-conceived from design to presentation.

A penis would go into a silicon sheath and mechanical rollers would push down on the genitals thru the sheath. No way that could go wrong. It also had handlebars for some reason. Maybe for ease of transport, maybe so the device could be used by the guy while standing up. I'd guess the whole contraption would have weighed quite a lot at that stage.

Does anyone remember anything about it?

Sounds like one of several "blowjob machine" kickstarters. They were all pretty much the same. They sponsored a bunch of videos on Pornhub and I remember seeing Jynx Maze demonstrating one on a guy, so if you search, the videos might still be up.

Also, anyone else remember OffBeatr? That was a great idea, a Kickstarter for adult products. Crowdfunded My Little Pony Porn for everyone!

If it helps any, the one I remember was a blue plastic ham-shaped device with handlebars.

Edit: That is the most memorable thing, a gently caress ham you had to hold up because if you let it go at the wrong time it could break your penis.

Crowdfunding is kind of weird about adult stuff because its technically against the rules on all the big sites but at the same time almost all of the biggest Patreons are for porn, so basically they're happy to take peoples' money but won't actually own up to it and are happy to throw people under the bus the bus the second any negative attention or controversy pops up.

I mean, Amazon sells sex toys and Target puts vibrating cockrings an aisle away from children's toothbrushes and nobody really gives a poo poo. If you're gonna profit on it them just own up to it instead of doing this charade.

It's because the vast majority of online payment processors are really drat squeamish when it comes to adult content, for some stupid reason. And if you're not big enough to tell them to go gently caress themselves (like Amazon is) then it's easier to just "not allow" the stuff, but only take action when it's explicitly pointed out to you.

Ain't really stupid, the payment processor could be liable for Investigation and poo poo in a lot of backwards jurisdictions. And even though they'd near certainly win in court, that's a lot of unnecessary costs if you can get away just saying "no porn" instead.

I know that PayPal not only doesn't allow transactions for adult material but will outright ban people from the service if they do and even had (has?) a honeypot set up where you can choose adult entertainment as one of the categories for your transaction...which immediately kicks you out and flags your account.

Yup. Most payment processors classify adult products as "high risk" and will refuse to work with people who deal in them. From what I understand this also means that the terms you can get with the ones that will allow adult business are a lot shittier than "normal" accounts.

The RokBlok is like the quintessential awful tech gadget KickStarter product: take a gadget that has existed for half a century already, make it worse in almost every way, and still inexplicably make almost a million dollars between gullible crowdfunding patrons and television venture capitalists.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPIJVdQkb1Q

For well below the $100 price tag of the RokBlok you could get a portable record player with Bluetooth that actually works and doesn't destroy your records but, I dunno, when was the last time you saw one of those on Shark Tank?

Amazing how much worse it sounds than the item it's knocking off.

If someone was going to make a gimmick "turntable" where the record stays stationary, they should do something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOuxU6OEHWU&t=360s

Then you could solve the speed issue, the tracking force issue, and the tracking issue. It would only sit on the label and could even have a remote to lower and raise the cartridge. Done properly and it wouldn't damage records any more than a standard turntable. And it would still be gimmicky enough to sell to idiots.

Mostly 'shittier' in the way they take a larger cut/higher fees because they know there's a limited amount of companies that will do it.
