Niumatalolo would have been way better and more fun but Sumlin's a solid hire for them.

Uh, good luck with that I guess. Fisch would make a lot of sense for Bama, I think

It's hard to be disappointed because Sumlin is a good hire.

On the other hand, http://footballscoop.com/news/ken-niumatalolo-walks-away-from-arizonas-search-process/

quote:

Sources tell FootballScoop this tweet spooked Arizona’s president and gave him pause during the search. Arizona and Niumatalolo were already well into negotiations at this point sources tell FootballScoop. Saturday morning both the search firm and Niumatalolo thought they would get a deal done we are told; but University leadership had yet to fully approve the hire. Later Saturday the public began to see tweets DHR hoped would begin to sway Arizona leadership back in support of Niumatalolo; but it appears those tweets (from writers and coaches) were about two days too late. Some might suppose the firm should have been more proactive in addressing known potential concerns of star players; but alas some seem to value secrecy over hiring the right man.

if true, lol

EDIT: Sumlin's retaining Yates as DC and hiring Noel Mazzone as OC, that's all good.

I don't love Mazzone but keeping Yates is probably good considering how much the players seem to like him.

I’m going to laugh when ASU could have had Sumlin and he ends up dominating us instead because “Herm Edwards, Sun Devil CEO”. I hope someone prints and shoves articles of Sumlin’s hiring in Ray Anderson’s face when he’s fired in a few years.

I wouldn't say that I expect to laugh about that, but this is also how I see this story going.

I guess the search firm has to be diplomatic about it but that absolutely confirms Khalil Tate torpedoed the deal with that tweet

Also, Kevin Sumlin gets to return to Houston in Week 2. That game just became a big-time grudge match.

I know Twitter's thing is to assume literally every fired coach is going to Alabama to be an analyst but those are lovely jobs that pay like crap. The people taking them are almost always guys who can't get any other jobs and need to rehab their image like Sark. Mac isn't really in that boat. I could see OC though.

That's kind of weird, is that normal? Like if you gently caress up as an OC you can go be QB coach or something, unless you do something shockingly lovely like Dave Bliss?

Please some NFL team hire Brian Kelly so that Notre Dame is forced to eat table scraps a month after every other college team filled their position. Preferably a few days before the final signing day.

Herb Hand leaving Auburn for the co-OC/OL job at Texas. His contract had expired the day of the Peach Bowl and there was some uncertainty about his future but the impression I got was everyone was kinda assuming they'd ultimately work it out. Longtime friends with Malzahn, line played well at times but was inconsistent in big moments, like at Clemson and that Peach Bowl. I think OL recruiting was also not going great.

Under his watch, Clemson sacked Stidham about 20 times, but they shuffled personnel around and were really great in the UGA/Bama wins. But then they weren't great again.

Penn State's offensive line was horrible at Penn State (remember when Temple sacked Hackenberg on a two man rush?), but it's hard to attribute all of it to Hand when there was a complete lack of depth and talent. Like, worse than G5.

Hand inexplicably was offered the Auburn job and Franklin didn't bother to counteroffer.

Limegrover was a huge upgrade.
