It's a good book and very readable but the caveat with Beevor's books is that they are pop history so they're not totally authoritative or in line with recent scholarship. I'd still recommend it though if you don't know a whole lot about the Battle of Stalingrad.

There's I think a series of books I always hear are pretty great histories of the Eastern Front because the author got to research in the old KGB archives , that always gets high praise. Don't know if they got into NKVD archives or not, but they're work is top notch and by complete coincidence they share the same publisher as me. Edit: heh, beaten.
