Aurora posted:you are talking to multiple queer people, you are preaching to the choir. please stop assuming the worst I think what people are really getting mad about is that by questioning their assumptions, they think I'm trying to take away their sense of representation. The central thesis of Crybaby is universally representational, and you don't need to be exactly the same as any one character to feel represented by them. You should even be able to see yourself in Satan. Insisting that characters definitely want to gently caress isn't supported in the text, because in Crybaby wanting to gently caress anyone is always bad. True love isn't about loving, and saying that Miko might love Miki non-sexually doesn't mean they're just "good friends." True love is familial, and it's a family rooted in interpersonal relationships that transcends ethnicity and blood ties. It's a pure Christian influenced love that even transcends the wrathful nature of God.

dogsicle posted:nobody in this show wants to gently caress, gently caress is bad I literally did not say that nobody wants to gently caress, I said that loving and wanting to gently caress is presented as bad. All explicit expressions of sexuality are negative. If you don't believe me, then watch it again. The desire to gently caress is inherently exploitative, and it's presented as such in Crybaby. Sexuality isn't even inherently essential to romantic interest. Expect My Mom posted:*a guy has anal sex with another man* Miko had big honkers before she became a devilman, and she takes her bra off because it's a locker room where everyone exposes themselves. Her literal intent in that scene is to expose the fact that she resents Miki and views her as a rival and not as a friend, and she's infuriated because she gets chummy with Miki in spite of her intentions. Koda's buttsex scene is also bad. He doesn't actually care about the guy he's loving, he's just a tool for him to work off his own problems, and in the end he literally devours him, which is an allusion to the exploitative nature of exclusively sexual relationships. Crybaby's theme is anti-sexual.

Don't have sex or your partner's genitals will become a mouth or spikes or whatever and just straight up chop you in half. This is what happens if you are an impure sex-haver, and rightfully so.

also, on a less note, there's not really any room for debate on the time loop thing; the existence of the 70s Devilman anime in Crybaby's universe pretty much seals it now, if you want to interpret the ending as the end of the loop because of the two moons, then that's fine, but the loop thing is absolutely addressed in Crybaby, just really obliquely and in a way that looks like a meta gag unless you're already aware of the plot thread

Namtab posted:How is the desire to gently caress inherently exploitative? Wanting to gently caress someone is an urge that is felt regardless of the feelings of the subject. It's distinct from the desire to "make love," which is mechanically the same but thematically different. To make love is a mutual act, but loving happens regardless of if the other party gets anything out of it. That's thematically represented in Akira's wet dream of Miki, where he imagines doing her from behind - is the identity of the subject really important when you're imagining intercourse without their face? When Akira leers at Miki to the point he can see her breasts and pubic hair, he's lusting after her parts, not looking at her. Coveting the part or parts of a person is a theme that becomes fully resolved at the end of episode 9, when everyone Akira cares about is literally eviscerated, and broken down into their individual parts by people who didn't know them at all. dogsicle posted:the show full of graphic nudity and sex is anti-sexual drat that's galaxy-level The heroic struggle involves overcoming the desire of sexual urges. If you think the presentation of sexual material and sexuality in the show is positive, then you're not paying attention. It's almost exclusively exploitative, with the photographer being the literal embodiment of those relations.
