On the one hand, I'm guessing from the looks of the interior that the decomposition of the plastic and the burning would have broken contact and thus current before the charger cold have gone up in flames, but on the other hand, it seems like the thing had my phone's battery fairly close to combustion itself, and those things going up in flames is much less of a questionmark. Bullet dodged in any case, I guess. The deformation on the USB jack of my phone is now hosed, so I think it might be time for a new phone after 5 years. Had an HTC Desire HD, and this HTC One M7, those two were the only smartphones I ever had, and I don't need a top-of-the line model ever again, so I'm thinking about looking at deals on One M8s, or possibly some Samsung models. The only thing I really care about is a quick response to input, decent computing power, decent camera, and good GPS reception.

Man why is it such a pain in the rear end to move files from my PC to my iphone. With android it's just a simple drag and drop into the phone. My iphone 7 is my first and last iphone, what a piece of garbage. No idea why the gently caress anyone would by apple products, their competitors produce better products. That's what makes Google Fi the tits. Don't have to do anything for international travel. And they just implemented data overage protection, so they'll only charge you for up to 6 gigs of data, everything from 6-15 gigs is free, and after 15 they slow your data and give you the option to pay again to speed it back up.

NoNostalgia4Grover posted:Get the latest Google phone. Google bought part of HTC's design team, so again get the latest Google phone. Okay, so I just googled this and I don't seem to have anymore feeling for what price segments there currently are. I always used to get ye olde cellphone contractte in Germany, which was 20 bucks a month for the contract, plus 16 - 19 bucks for the payment plan on the phone for 24 months depending on choice of model, so my segment was always in the 380s - 450 segment, well below the premium 600+ segment. Now, I've pretty much decided on never getting a contract again, because I've been chilling on a monthly 7.99 prepaid card from loving Aldi since August, and I realized I need maybe 20 mins of phonecalls, 50 text messages, and 1.5 gigs of data tops per month, so I'm not going to shell out 20-30 bucks per month for options I'm never going to use. Now, I'm seeing what seems to be HTCs flagship model in all kinds of variations ranging from 250 to 560 bucks, some Google phones all around the 400 eurouble mark, and other models around the 150 range. I guess what I'm asking is whether I can shift down a price segment and still get the performance I get from my four-year-old HTC One M7, or whether it's like computers, where you should stay in a price segment, and get a new computer like every 5 years or whatever. /edit: Also, holy poo poo, I have no clue regarding operating systems and processing power. Do I need Android 7, or 8, what the gently caress is a snapdragon, goddamnit, I feel old every time I do this Duzzy Funlop fucked around with this message at 20:19 on Jan 24, 2018 |

I kept hyping the google phone because you said your last 2 phones were HTCs, and blah blah. Not caring about smartphone specs and buying something off the (amazon) Prime exclusive phone list last year worked for me. Only thing I looked for was multi-carrier support and no amazon ads/deals, ended up with a moto play g4. Current prime phone deals: if you just want working gps, cellservice and a decent screen go for the moto e4 or moto g5 phones...which, poo poo..may not work in Germany. quantumfoam fucked around with this message at 21:32 on Jan 24, 2018 |

I've got the Moto G5, it's pretty good and you can get the64 gb ad-less one at $250 from costco sometimes. Looks like they're phasing it out or something because the amazon listing is kinda fucky.
