Of all the domesticated animals they are the most "natural"

All this time and muskrats were the original source of unaltered, virgin bacon all along.

Also you could find wild cows in Europe up until a few centuries ago when we killed the last of the aurochs (and some near relatives still survive in Asia). They're one of the few domesticated animals whose wild ancestor is straight-up extinct, alongside horses and dromedary camels.

On the other hand, you all had the flu because your body hadn't done the tutorial on how to fight the virus because you weren't vaccinated. It had to figure it out the hard way. Actually I just realised that "The Virus" would be a great name for a secret agent specialising in terrorists - he gets into a Cell and destroys it from within. Sounds like a idea Fox show from the mid-2000s that gets cancelled on a cliffhanger after one season, possibly starring Skeet Ulrich or someone similar.

I'd love to see this guy make a bobcat or hyena mate with a muskrat. That would work really well, breeding a predator with a largish semiaquatic rodent. Also bobcats and muskrats are both native to North America and hyenas are from Africa and the Middle East, mostly, so how pigs existed before European colonization of North America I don't know and this is absolutely more thought than I should put into this.
