What I love is that our "human monster" on his way to getting a meal acted a lot more heroic than most the common people on the street.

I really hope he teaches his little friend some cool moves, he could be a good big brother if he tried.

i mean that's the point of garou he wants to be a monster but his idea of being a monster is basically just destroying the status quo

Is it just me, or has Garou been in more chapters of the Murata version than he was in the webcomic version?

It's really hard to judge, they've been adding so much stuff that the timescale is all messed up, but it feels like he's appeared in at least as many chapters as the original, yet we're only just getting to the halfway point. (maybe? again, hard to tell)

Well we got the entire Super Fight arc added in which had a bunch of Garou scenes, so that's probably contributing.

The existence of the Metal Bat fight alone makes me so confused by the 'The ONE version is better' people. You can like it more, sure, you can try and claim that it's the better story or is better written/paced/told ect all you want, but until that version has a beautiful spread wherein a lovable hotblooded street punk hits the ground with a baseball bat so hard that all of the surrounding cars loving bounce up off the ground it is an inherently inferior work.

Frankly that scene or one like it should be required in any and all forms of media going forward.

Because tbh I rather enjoy all the additions made for the Murata ver., and apparently so does ONE since he drew up the storyboard for a good deal of them. And stuff that may be from murata's side of the collab gets incorporated into the webcomic like it ain't no thang

I like the original webcomic's pacing better and whether Murata's version was also written by ONE or not doesn't change that.

I also don't mind all the new additions because that means I get to read more original OPM which is never a bad thing, especially yeah, more Metal Bat.

Runa

The original had some bits that felt a little rushed imo. Though ONE was also clearly trying to rush through to get to some good stuff he had lined up so that's okay. Also the jokes land really solidly well when paired with that dopey doodle art. Lower attention to visual detail means that instead of focusing on impressive cinematic compositions (with the exception of certain standout moments, and you may recall the later parts of the Garou arc in the ONE version were filled with them), a lot of panels are instead focused on punchier comedic pacing, so I would say the ONE version is at least funnier and more consistently so.

But the murata version has a lot of merits, and I think the more detailed art doesn't just help sell the fights, it also elevates the drama. A bit of a hit to comedy is an acceptable price to pay for some genuinely moving visual direction.

Like that scene where King realizes who Saitama is? That was already a touching moment in the original, but the murata version took that moment and (metaphorically) punched it straight to the moon and back.

ONE version is funnier and faster paced. Murata's is much prettier and has cooler fights. I prefer ONE's, but am glad we have them both.

Sometimes Murata over-emphasises the action aspect to the detriment of the story. I can imagine that ONE gets to the point more efficiently in that regard. Some of the recent fights remind me of the Star Wars Prequels in that there is a lot of visually compelling action for very little emotional payoff.

The last Elder Centipede fight and most fights involving Garou manage to be emotionally compelling and also fun spectacles. There are some fights, though, that are just kind of there. Particularly the first encounter with the monster association feels like there are no stakes.

For example Fubuki's fight against that dominatrix. It's not funny, it's not dramatic. The action is good, but it doesn't really serve a purpose other than pass the time. Similarly, the tournament arc had very little emotional weight to the fights because we already knew it didn't matter in the long run. Once the monsters show up, it gets interesting again, but you still end up with a bunch of nothing fights in between.

I don't prefer ONE or the other (hehe) but there are parts of ONE's that are in-arguably executed better than Murata's version has done them and there are parts where Murata's does it better.

Outside of the art being astronomically better in Murata's, they're mostly on the same level.

tbh I'm pretty sure the dominatrix fight was just Murata setting aside some time to skirt the edges of the porn hole again but on the whole you're right. The tournament arc was more about Suiryu than Saitama but the arc didn't really have any stakes until the monsters appeared. Some pretty decent goofs, sure, but it was an awful lot of low-investment fights to lead up to Suiryu finally, finally having his moment of realization about what sets heroes apart from those who are merely strong.

I like the Murata version since theres more OPM, and I wont say no to more OPM.
However as a single work the pacing and timing of the webcomic is superior.

Fubuki’s fight outright confirms that Tatsumaki is basically always using her ESP to be an overbearing big sister by swooping in when the former takes actual damage, which given Fubuki’s complex is kind of a not unimportant thing?

This leads into another observation, where the Murata version will sometimes explain too much.

A big part of Garou's character is how he has a strong hatred of injustice and how this has lead him into conflict with society's hero/monster dichotomy. The tournament storyline covered very similar ground, and that undermines some of the drama of Garou's arc.

This is another example. The problem isn't that it isn't important, but that it's too important. It over clarifies something that was previously only implied.

It takes the reader from "I wonder if Tatsumaki's over-protectiveness will cause trouble" to "I am no longer wondering that because the manga has made a point of it too often for it to be otherwise."

It's a small thing, but it bugs me. It's like reading a copy of a book where someone's already highlighted the important bits.
