I was watching the Summoning Salt video on SMB3 and I wondered: how did someone discover the wrong warp?

What's the origin of the prhase "wrong warp", anyway? I mean, it's perfectly pithy and describes what it is really well, but it has a strange cadence to it. Did a Japanese runner put it that way first or something?

I think it was from OoT with farore's wind and when people played around with the glitch more, they eventually found the one that makes the current any % route possible. There were like 3 days of just nonstop crazy things going on with that game when that came out.

TG has not gone to bat for billy, in fact they even collected some supporting evidence against him. Maybe they learned their lesson.

I think it comes out of "Wrong Grab" where you grab the wrong item in platformer games.

Death warping, save warping and so on have been established terms for a long time. I figured it's simply taking that terminology plus the fact that the warp is taking you to a "wrong" place.

Perfect Pac-Man is mostly just memorizing patterns, and a long game could be explained away because the game has ways to effectively pause it if you want to go take a piss or get a drink or whatever.

odd question but are there any "solved" games. as in the world record is impossible to beat by another human. maybe a stupid question since it always seems like when a game is solved someone finds some new glitch or tech to beat it but i assume via tas it can be determined.

Puzzle games where there's no randomization are probably solved. Like tasvideos just put up a TAS of boxxle 2 on the Game Boy, a game that's entirely sokoban puzzles and tiny text cutscenes every 10 stages or so. All the puzzles get solved with the best known solution in terms of moves and thus the best possible cuz moving tile to tile always takes the same time. Obviously though, there isn't much of a competitive community around playing through a 3.5 hour perfect run for a game boy puzzle game.

IIRC people have examined the Dragster assembly code and determined that the current speedrun record is the best score possible (and, perhaps more significantly, that the previous speedrun record was physically impossible and was thus the result of either cheating or a broken cabinet).
