A little "what about the whites!!!". I looked it up and it's 110,000 Japanese interned in the US, 11,000 Germans, and 3,000 Italians (I'm unclear as to what portions of the latter two were US citizens):

Is it just me, or are we seeing an upsurge in semi-woke (or "blind pig"/"broken clock") Freepers? Though in fairness, I sniff this post and get a whiff of "an-cap".

quote:

One factor that gets overlooked is that the incarceration of the J-Americans was also a huge land grab.

Southern California in particular was a rich agricultural area with much of the land owned by the JA's. That land was confiscated for non payment of taxes.

If FDR was going to be fair (he had no intention of that), then all property would have been put into trusts and returned to the owners after the war.

No doubt, many innocent Japanese-Americans were caught up in the WWII internment, but I suspect that the 20/20 hindsight being cast back to the early 1940s is just as shortsighted, and lacking in understanding of the realities of that time, as many other exercises in 20/20 hindsight some Americans just can’t resist indulging in.

There is no shortage of America hating leftist and guilt-ridden, self-loathing Americans who have an orgasmic emotional experience whenever America apologizes, or in any way admits some past wrong, however legitimate or illegitimate it might be.

I think entirely unwarranted self-importance and self-righteousness have more to do with this sort of thing than anything else. Some people spend their lives looking for the next emotional orgasm and this is one of the ways they go about it.

A number of Freepers chimed in to note that it took the Japanese Navy a herculean effort just to attack Pearl Harbor for a couple hours, much less land an invasion force on a heavily militarized island, and the Japanese had not a whiff of a chance of actually successfully invading the West Coast, regardless of fifth-or-more columns.

I disagree that McCarthy went over the top and poisoned things.

McCarthy did during the years from 1950-1953 what we wish Trump would do now on a variety of issues. He grasped those issues, grappled with them tooth and nail against the most powerful people, did it all by himself, and doggedly would not relent. They eventually killed him.

The vision of McCarthy we have been fed for most of our lives by schools, media, and the history books was a picture painted by, framed by, and presented by the Left. It is flat out wrong and unfair.

And, like Leftists of today, the Leftists then who were protecting Communists in our government (including Harry Truman) unfairly accused McCarthy of EXACTLY what they themselves were doing.

Joseph McCarthy was an American hero, and he should have been treated as such.
