That was me, glad you like them.
Perhaps my favourite thing about them is that they actually have legit clever and good lyrics. There is a certain humor and playfulness to them, but not in a "haha we're so wacky lol monkey cheese" kinda way. Clever rhymes, rich and creative vocabulary, inventive idioms.

Of course, anyone who doesn't understand Finnish will just have to take my word for that. :v:

Fabio Leone's only been on one other Angra album, Secret Garden, which is pretty good as well. Pre-Leone, I think Temple of Shadows is their best album.

Right there with you. The only thing that's missing from that track for me is that hit by loving train sound when the drums and Devin's roar hits as one on the album track. I have no idea how you'd replicate that live short of jamming them all into a closet with you. That sound is like the THX swell of metal. A friend of mine worked in a car audio shop and bet me I couldn't find a track that would blow these woofers his shop had in their demo car. Cranked the system to 10 and set the alarm system for the jewelry shop next door off and then blew the woofers on the next hit. His boss was not amused the next day.

I need help locating an album cover. I remember it as black and white but there might have been red text and some yellow imitating lantern light from a cabin. There's a hooded Zodiac killerish figure in the doorway and I think a pit with bodies in it.

My brain wants the band to be Hooded Menace but I'm pretty sure that's not it. I cannot for the life of me remember the band name or even the music off the album just some hazy details of the album cover. Is this a fever dream or am I remembering an actual album cover? I think horror is part of the name but I can't be sure. Anyone recognize this?

Yes to all of this. That loving sound is so perfect in the song. It really shows an early example of the level of, I don’t know, texture and tactile layering Devin would go on to use.

il_cornuto

That song came after he'd already released City and Accelerated Evolution, both of which had a lot of layering and wall of sound texture. And really, you can see elements of that style as far back as his earliest albums, so I don't think I'd say it was an early example. Right from the first track of Ocean Machine there is ton of texture and layering, and that was released 8 years before Alien.

I have his sig on my ticket to the NJ Metal and Hardcore Festival in 2003, where he performed with both SYL and DTB. There was a guy in the crowd for DTB just hanging out by himself in a wheelchair, not getting anywhere near where any of the action was. Devin quietly sought him out and chatted him up after the set, trying his hardest not to be noticed by any of the people in the front of the venue. It always struck me as such a humble and genuine thing to do.

Right there with you. I didn't get into SYL until last year when I was digging through his other stuff, and specifically the Retinal Circus because he played this and Detox.

Chaos Years is a great starter for SYL if you don't know which album to start with, but City is probably my favorite.

I should have gone to see DTP on their Transcendence tour but I skipped because I figured "I'll catch them when they come back"
