Steve Jobs was pretty clever at marketing but not so bright in other ways. For example, the reason all doors at Apple HQ are revolving doors is because Steve would frequently embarrass himself or come in angry every morning because he kept ignoring the large, printed "PULL" and "PUSH" signs people taped to the doors for him.

COMRADES posted:Shut up 3O stop defending pervos scheming on teens. 19 year olds are technically teens but they are also adults entrusted to make all sorts of much more important life decisions like racking up massive amounts of non-dischargeable debt, appearing in hardcore pornography, having a child, getting married and joining the military then engaging in a consensual sexual relationship with someone that is older than them. 19 year olds like to get hosed too and choosing an older man to do the loving does not universally mean they are being taken advantage of, the guy she is loving might actually have much more to lose in this situation.

Besides, authority figures like teachers or bosses aren't allowed to take advantage of their students/workers sexually for this very reason, regardless of their age. Why are you defending this? Are you a pedophile?

Huntersoninski posted:A 19 year old is still growing. Their brain won't be done cooking for a handful of years. The part that's not done yet helps them make choices and understand the consequences of their actions, making them pretty vulnerable still to people who would take advantage of them. 19 is a legal adult, but not really a full grown adult. Humans learn by constantly loving up. We let people join the military, own property, take on debt, be subject to the full force of the justice system, have sex with other adults and more at 18. This thread already makes plenty of complaints about the delayed adulthood and responsibility shirking of manchildren and the like. How long do you want to protect people from consequences? Humans exist as messy garbage creatures, popped barely formed from the womb. They learn to walk by falling over thousands of times until they get it right. Sometimes while learning to walk a baby gets mildly or even seriously injured because falling over repeatedly is an inherently dangerous process. America chose 18 as a ballpark "good enough" fuzzy age where the majority of humans don't irreversibly or fatally ruin their lives. On average, an individual has received at least a modicum of preparation for surviving getting rolled by the world at 18. You will get rolled by the world at 18 in some way or another. If a skeezy 30-something pulls somebody into a lovely relationship when they're 18 or 19, hopefully, the teenager gets out and learns not to do that again. For those that don't, there's always the collective wisdom of /r/relationships to appeal to. The brain is still cooking, so painful lessons will stick very well and are the exact things that allow them to hone a sense of consequence beyond the immediate.

The creepy pedophile had been grooming her since she was like 15 to have sex with her and then waited an additional year after the highest age of consent, perhaps even 3 years to make his move? Strikes me as highly unlikely. How about 19 year old as an adult decided to strike it out on her own as adults do, found a church and hit it off with another consenting adult that they had mutually enjoyable sex with? We actually had an age gap post (possibly multiple) in this very thread where the OP said something like "don't worry we waited until I was 18 to have sex". Also she said in her post that the guy knew her since she was 15 iirc

I went to a relevant meetup in San Francisco and there was a really wealthy gay guy in his late 40s dating a really attractive gay guy in his early 20s According to this thread that's abuse / exploitation but I don't agree, I think adults can do what they want in their life, and coming up with weird pseudo rules about like "Well you're 18 but you're not making good choices by doing stuff I wouldn't" is really dumb and controlling Like at what point do people just get to be people and do what they want to do? We still coddle 18 and 19 year olds like they're vulnerable children, I think that sucks poo poo Yes this is a cliche but at 18 you can enlist in the army and get shot in the desert but you can't choose to date someone in their 30s or you're doing something wrong. What a bizarre way of thinking Anyway I get a bit tired of the endless moralizing of other people's relationships but I get that many people here believe in these super rigid / uptight rules about acceptable age ranges so my point of view is not the representative one.
