I'm very near the end of this game and ended up liking it a lot more than I expected to. I generally hate JRPGs but everything about this game, from its art style to its slick battle system, really drew me in. I'm probably gonna jump right in NG+ to get the extra hidden stuff and finish up the remaining Confidants I didn't manage to finish this time around. Are all the Persona games as good as this one? I was surprised to see P4 was actually a drat PS2 game. I hope it doesn't take that long for P6 to come out, though I heard this one had some development troubles so I guess that's why. I never played any SMT games either, should I get hype for SMT V on the Switch if I liked this? Also I love rhythm games and this game's soundtrack loving owns so I'm unironically down for the dumb dancing game.

Mainline SMT is basically the same thing battle-wise but it completely excises the virtual novel/social stuff aspect in favor of more traditional RPG stuff with sidequests etc. Also your party is just the demons you catch/fuse from battle and you fighting with them. So if you like the combat system and stuff they're definitely worth checking out. P4 is good, though the best version is Golden for PSVita and PSTV. It has a lot of mechanical updates over the original you'll be used to from P5. P3 is pretty hard to go back to after P5, especially if you aren't playing the PSP version. P1 and 2 are completely different games, more like traditional SMT with a party instead of just you and your demons going out killing poo poo. I'm actually having the opposite experience. Like, Ryuji I know you're a good guy and all but oh my god do you have brain damage? Did Kamoshida break your skull as well as your leg? You've almost gotten us caught like five times and actually did get us caught at least once, you just got lucky that it was Makoto. Morgana is the only one who ever dunks on him and I appreciate him for that. I do like Ryuji outside of his role in the plot, full disclosure.

Ryuji and Morgana are excellent examples of characters that mostly bring their troubles on themselves. Ryuji can't keep his voice down and almost exposes the Phantom Thieves, Morgana constantly self-owns by being a self centered dipshit, it's amazing.

Getting Nazgul vibes from it.

This isnt just ryuji tho. They all do stupid poo poo when it comes to discussing their phantom thievery. Strategy meetings in public are the worst example but barely an ingame week goes by where they won't clearly cock up in some other way. They're really lucky what they're doing is so outlandish almost no one will believe it. Cuz they keep doing poo poo like magically appearing in public in the middle of a crowd of understandably stunned and curious onlookers. Kids clearly arent that hot at keeping poo poo on the DL.

Seriously though I bought a Vita to play P4G and P3P after being dazzled by 5 and I was not disappointed. Yosuke in P4 is made far better by the unused dialog that shows he’s got a serious crush on the protagonist. It’s treated pretty nicely and I wish they’d used it for the actual game; it would have been nice and added some depth to his weird freakouts in Kanji’s Sauna...projection much?
