Well people can change but I guess Japanese society is harsher to those who don't conform.

If I was in the protag's class I would be weary at first but he literally is Jesus. All the other confidants have done something messed up even if they were put in bad circumstances. Ann not really standing up for Chiyo as much she should have, Ryuji trying to assault a teacher because the teacher was an rear end in a top hat and much more.

The protag literally does nothing wrong, 90% of his dialogue is just being agreeable to a fault and sometimes he makes bad jokes thats it. I would become his best friend instantly especially since he can help you break into to houses and he brings you to coolest places to eat food.

Have you figured it out yet?
I mean I like this game and all and haven't played P4 but yeah, the MC in this game is definitely just an anime mary sue protagonist. I mean poo poo, he's so utterly revered and loved that Akechi straight up banks on the rest of the team falling apart without him, despite the fact that the remaining phantom thieves could definitely have gone after him and Shido without Joker if it weren't for the whole "let's own the ever loving poo poo out of Akechi" plan. I'm kinda curious to see what kind of personality he'll get in the anime; it would be interesting if they kept him as the sort of quiet observer he is in the game.

Nathilus posted:

Word but here's my self-constructed excuse. That's part of the power of the fool. As much better-voiced igor said back in the day, its like the number zero. Empty yet holding infinite possibility. This doesnt just apply to persona powers. Its relevent to the role of the fool in the major arcana.

It's the fools job to go on a journey and meet the various archetypal figures, gaining self-knowledge as a result of each meeting and eventually reaching enlightenment/apotheosis/completion/whatever.

If you need a better reason as to why all these people treat him like hot poo poo than "thats the way the story goes its been like that for hundreds of years", then think about the social utility of being a blank slate who people can use as a mirror. It does in fact work irl.

But yeah end of the day anime protag.

I like this interpretation. I own a set of Tarot Cards and read up on them a few times, so it was kinda fun seeing all the major arcana playing a role in this game. Igor doesn't say anything but Caroline and Justine do mention the idea of the Fool being the subject of the cards, with each of the other major arcana representing a stage/important figure in their life. They are meant to be a blank slate, like you said, embarking on a journey.

It is clear you haven't played P4 or P3 as in terms of plot significance, the P5 protagonist is nothing that new. Akechi had a point though. You fracture the party by taking out the protagonist and while they could bounce back eventually, it would take time for them to do so. More importantly they would have no way to figure out what is going on with the conspiracy. Add to that the whole game between Igor and the big bad being declared over in favor of the big bad the party would be able to do jack poo poo to save humanity.

Prob around 70ish, really if you're just playing the game normally on your first try you should be around that level anyway. If you're having trouble take advantage of max Strength and fuse some stronger demons. Alice and Yoshitsune, Ishtar if you need a healer

I don't wanna double post so I'll just add it in I guess. I didn't expect this big of a discussion in terms of Persona MCs. I agree that Joker is still pretty self-insert, but I still think 4 is worse. My favorite setting is probably 3 honestly, the cast feels a lot less like "a bunch of superfriends overcoming adversity with the power of friendship" and more human. Plus the animal mascot was a doggo.

So have I just had a dumb string of days in a row or can I not meet with my fellow Phantom Thieves to raise their confidant levels after fighting Akechi in the Cruiser?

Because I'm a total of five meetings away from maxing out everyone that's not plot gated and have like two weeks left before I have to send a calling card.

Why does every single anime cutscene have to focus on the bodies of teenage girls and Ryuji making honka-honka moves?

Just for once it'd be cool if they animated an important or visually impressive story beat like someone unlocking their persona or something.

I am in the final palace and man having seth with apt pupil just crits everything. I can see how this could be hard dungeon but I could probably do it in 1 day. Makes me want to put the game on hard again or do a new game + but this game is too long and some months are too boring to put up with.

So far my favorite party members has been Yusuke but he doesn't really get much screen time and his confidant events are hit or miss. I would just go on dates with Yusuke if I could just for his commentary. He also has a really great design and is good in combat.

Also about the party, for me atleast, this has been a pretty balanced party. There many rpgs where you always have some party members that are completely useless but this game has a pretty balanced party. Haru and Morgana I didn't use that much, especially Morgana in the latter half of the game as debuffs are much more important than healing maybe this is different on hard. The first half of the game I was using Morg alot but once you get a few passive on everyone, healing is less important imo since your passive buffs give you an edge.

Too bad Akechi doesn't stay in your party because it's easy mode with him.

Haru is a goddamn monster in the late game. Yes, it's super obnoxious you don't really 'get' to use them in their first dungeon because social link mechanics gating making any new character functionally useless, but then you start stacking Gun skill damage buffs and powerful Gun skills suddenly everything dies in a hail of bullets.

Then they get Heat Riser.

the best part is that those cutscenes are often completely out of character too, ryuji doesn't act like that at all in the actual game and absolutely never pervs on ann

It's been said before but between things like that and the situation with waluigi's glasses in that one cutscene, it really feels like the anime was outsourced and completed a long time before the game itself was done being written

It very clearly was. Joker's glasses are obvious culprits, but you also have poo poo like the time we have to all go to the beach with Futaba months after the Hawaii trip because they re-wrote it and she didn't go to Hawaii in the final version of the game but they still had the cutscene.
