There's a lot of good black metal made by people who aren't nazi's or otherwise openly bigoted. They might still be bad people, but that's where I personally choose to draw the line.

Most if not every 2nd wave black metal band least flirted with nazi symbolism and hate speech. Im not saying i agree with any of that poo poo, just that drawing the line there means that even darkthrone is off limits.

Darkthrone are the one big exception that I personally make. Mostly because (to my knowledge) Fenriz has never tried the "I was just trolling" cop-out and instead acknowledges that yes, he really was that racist back then, which he now regrets. Somehow, that makes the nazi poo poo on and surrounding Transilvanian Hunger fine to me, possibly because I have brain problems

il_cornuto

There are a couple of edge case exceptions I make for probably totally hypocritical reasons, yeah. It's a personal choice anyway and I'm not claiming anyone else should do it so I reserve the right to listen to what I feel comfortable listening to. That said, if Fenriz started ranting about white genocide tomorrow I would stop listening to them.

i have no dog in this fight because i don't give a poo poo about black metal, but it seems a little silly getting upset at a bunch of norwegian edgelords who grew up in the 70s and 80s vs their parents' generation who were actual nazi collaborators

There's no room for nazi poo poo in black metal because it's always OK to punch a nazi and you can't blastbeat if someone else is noseblasting you

edit: also because its 2018, cmon. sing about anything else you want just dont be shitheads

I’ve definitely shifted to the nature/mystical/occult side of black metal. I used to be leery of it but now it’s my poo poo. Satan hate jams stuff rules but not when it’s the same poo poo aping the old bands in the same way forever. Unless it’s good then that’s okay. I don’t know what my point is.

i don't think there's actually that much good NSBM, and even if there's some good stuff there's a shitload more good non-NSBM to listen to. so eh, it comes down to can you listen to music made by a racist rather than can you listen to music that has racist lyrics. i can

I think of all the dudes still running around from that early scene, Fenriz seems the most down to earth. I make an exception for Burzum because I genuinely like most of the albums, but I also acknowledge that Varg is a massive piece of poo poo and Ive never spent a dime on his records because I don't want to financially support his dumbass.

I hate the concept of separating the artist from the art (you can’t ya dang idiots) but I practice accepting that people you dislike aspects of or beliefs of can often have enough good in them to create art that resonates with you. It’s unfortunately hard to do but it works for me. No one is perfect but everyone has something unique that may be worth paying attention to.

I'm probably a lunatic but i like listening to evil music made by actual crazy and or terrible people. It's like the evilness is more intense and real. It's more credible and i think it's better to use that negativity to create music than actually hurting people. I can't listen to dumb racism and nazism though.
