Well now, NC's Elina Lepomäki is going to vote against the new SOTE bill the government coalition has spent years rubbing together, condemning it as inefficient, weakening and expensive. She also thinks the "freedom of choice" - that NC's favorite clause - does not lead to a more robust and competitive market. One NC parliamentarian isn't probably enough to knock the SOTE-train off the rails, but it'll give the opposition some bipartisan flair to their criticism.

Guys, this is hard to admit, but I kinda like Lepomäki. Sure, she's a Libera vampire who wants to kill the poor, but at least she's quite smart and ideologically consistent about it. Her critique of Sote is very good even though she is attacking it from right. I really hope that there's enough rebel cocks to sink the whole mess.

I'm gonna be a little more cynical and say that Lepomäki would probably be fine with the "privatization for us, maakuntahallinto for you" arrangement, like many Kokoomus MPs still seem to be, she's just afraid that the legal and budgetary issues will cripple the privatization, meaning the end result is her party getting totally played by kepu. It's fun and refreshing to see kokoomus be the one getting shat on by a coalition partner though. For siniset and kepu their popularity has been so in the toilet that they want to avoid new elections at any cost because it means losing the power they still enjoy, while kokoomus has been willing to go with it since they've been sitting pretty at #1. If the calculus changes for kokoomus and sitting in government means they have something to lose come 2019, they might throw a tantrum. The coalition majority is only six or seven seats, remember. DarkCrawler posted:Anyway there goes the chance of Kok triggering new elections. It could still happen, Kok just needs to think that doing something big to trigger the new elections will give them something to campaign with too. SDP are dumb af, but they'd probably eke out a win because both the other big parties are even dumber. Or who knows, maybe the Greens manage to pull off an upset because the big parties are all run by a buncha complete incompetents?

The Greens really shot themselves in the foot with their principle of only allowing someone to chair the party for a limited time. Niinistö would be making bank right now, but Fuckboy Touko is amazingly incompetent (also, apparently a complete drunkard). Anyway, about Lepomäki: someone somewhere mentioned that the business side of Kok (which is currently the majority fraction of the party) has always had two distinct factions: the bank/finance people and the corporate side. The bank/finance faction which Lepomäki belongs to, has always been for free markets for ideological reasons, and has had less concerns about the practical side of who benefits. This is probably a reason why she is against the kleptocratic Männistö side of the party right now.

What? Greens being the biggest party under Aalto is completely ridiculous. If I had to guess right now, SDP and Kok are going to be pretty close together but kepu will get enough seats that we end up with some sort of punamulta combination, unless SDP and Greens are suicidal enough to go into a coalition with Kokoomus. There won't be enough seats for a Kesk+Kok+PS coalition, though if there were, we'd definitely see Orpo and Sipilä eat every word they've said about Halla-aho. Edit: Yeah, Aalto was clearly a mistake, but I don't know if any of the other candidates would've been much better, except maybe Ohisalo?

The Greens suffers from the "please vote for us, we'll do anything you want, just vote for us pleeeeaaaaseeee" thing SDP does. Except that the Greens pretend to be anti-nuclear to appeal to the eco-fascists whereas the SDP pretends to care about factory jobs from the 1870's because that's when all their voters were born.
