Thinking about Infinity Chamber more, I think I finally kinda put something together... maybe it's obvious. I think Gabby is a "human" embodiment of Howard; the end may be Frank deciding that Howard's AI is good enough that he might as well just fall in love with her and live in the fantasy world forever. Handing over the information becomes not just a surrender but a positive choice, like Cypher deciding to remain in the Matrix. It's possible that Howard, being similarly trapped in its circumstances (including its mission to get Frank to hand over his secrets), actually ends up feeling genuine love for Frank. It's kind of disgusting but manages to be somewhat optimistic despite the apparent success of the mysterious totalitarian regime.

Never fails. I just paid to rent it a couple of weeks ago (it was worth it). Also everything Taylor Sheridan touches as a director and/or writer is pure gold. Amazing how far he is come from Sons of Anarchy.

I'm balls deep in Babylon Berlin and I can't recommend it enough. It works as a sort of a companion piece to Mute (both about Berlin in different eras), but way better execution. The casting of the leads is phenomenal.

You will love this series if any of the following appeal to you: Tom Tykwer, Art Deco, German and/or Weimar Republic history, socialism, punching fascists, jazz, David Bowie and/or Bryan Ferry, gritty historical dramas, boobies, uncircumcised penises.

Well not streaming (well on the Starz app it is), but also in Berlin I highly recommend Counterpart. Spy (very cold war-ish) + sci-fi + conspiracy + drama + great acting = amazing television.

I will be checking out Babylon Berlin. My only worry about it was being too long (16 episodes).

So we are supposed to take away that the end means he is still inside? I was wondering if that was just any old security camera, and it’s looking away from them is kind of signifying that he’s moved past the surveillance and doesn’t care anymore. It really did seem that he had escaped, especially with the third party rescuers and everything. His memories has never contained anyone else. As well, the way the news encapsulated the blackout and everything else that happened just.. made sense as a conclusion.

But at the same time, it’s hard to imagine the author using that camera as a plot device without intentionally meaning to convey that, yes, he’s still inside and has resigned to stay that way.

I actually thought Gabby was an AI as well, and was like the AI starting at that thread of the coffee shop he went to and trying to unravel it as much as possible by allowing him to live out a fantasy.

poo poo was a very good movie. Better than most low budget sci fi films.

I watched the Ritual and gently caress that mess.

Oh awesome! I think Hell or High Water and Sicario are "better" movies but there are scenes that I love in this one.

My favorite part was the convoluted close-range pistol shoot out at the end where everyone's firing like crazy and no one can hit anything, it felt so weirdly real.

The original Rollerball is on Netflix Prime, one of the best 70's future dystopian movies not starring Charlton Heston.

The acting is terrible, but so was the acting in Cube. It's still a fun and fascinating watch.

I honestly couldn't handle Cube either. Bad acting and production values just kill sci fi for me completely even if the concept is good. I'll probably still make an attempt to watch it.

I loved it and everyone should watch it, especially if stuff like Altered Carbon reminded you of a lovely videogame.

There's a lot of episodes because it was originally 2 seasons and Netflix just combined them.

Very loose adaptation of the first book. Alex Garland admitted he read the book once then adapted the screenplay based on his recollection of that initial read.

This is a little disappointing but not entirely surprising since so much of the book is just internal monologuing. Does the film at least maintain the same unsettling vibe?

I actually haven’t read the book, but I thought it did a great job of creating an uneasy dread up to the last moment. They’ve added some backstory to Natalie Portman’s character that’s a little thin, they changed the relationship with her husband, and the acting of the posse is very uneven.

But there are some frightening set pieces, and a very out-there third act that I liked a lot. Totally worth checking out, I mean how much new sci fi is there really?

I fell for all the blog hype myself, and it ended up being just OK. It honestly just feels like a Blumhouse flick, just set in a foreign country. Follows very similar beats, and doesn't try to do anything exciting with the formula. I'm actually confused as to where all he sudden promotion is coming from (apparently it has a 100 on RT, but the 6.6 on imdb is more accurate)
