Perhaps it's in the nature of television. Just waves in space.
I like watching really heavy poo poo when I’m high. Pop on a documentary and let that poo poo affect you. I dunno, emotions hit me much harder when I’m high so I usually end up enjoying the product much more because of that.

Ya pretty much, and fell asleep to it a bunch of times. the classical score and pseudo-high-society-monotone delivery that Jaden Smith and Jude Law use are extremely soothing and also absurdly hilarious with the lines they're delivering when u think about it

Neo Yokio's high IQ humour stems from its neoclassical roots, inspired largely by Seto Kaiba, especially the Yugioh The Abridged edition version, Frasier, classical animes like Gundam Wing, and Dragon Ball Z. Jaden Smith boasts the comedic delivery talent of a young Jerry Seinfeld, knocking his debut series starring role out of the park with a combination of searing nihilism and boastful condescension, and a great and memorable rivalry with recurring character Helena St. Tessero (leader of the "Helenists" Jaden Smith sneeringly says between his gritted teeth) played by Tavi Gevinson. Definitely not for normies who wouldn't get the references to high fashion mecha humour or appreciate the magistocrat magick fighting styles.

it's the post-irony-poisoning anime version of modern Seinfeld that millennials can feel like is theirs and tweet quotes from.

it works much better as a Netflix series than what would have happened if it aired on Fox ADHD or w/e their Adult Swim imitation lineup was called. it fits the Netflix brand perfectly as this oddball niche late night anime thing for not paying attention to. Life in 2018 is ADHD and this show simply gets it!

This space for Rent.
Jesus I just watched Mute and that was dogshit. My jaw hurts from clenching at some of the bullshit in this film. Did we really need a scene where the protagonist stumbles his way through ordering drone delivery, this despite his having done so offscreen at the beginning of the movie apparently with no trouble, and then like literally the next scene, when he needs to get an address from a phone number, which is what he JUST DID in order to end up in THE PLACE HE IS, instead of doing the same thing and getting drone delivery, he spends six months in a library to find some phonebooks? But that was just a small oddity, what mostly pissed me off was that the movie had nothing interesting to say about anything, everything happened because everyone except the tiny girl is some mixture of evil and stupid, and then the movie was dedicated to a dude who slept with a 16 year old. Just great. If Duncan Jones wants to make a movie set in Berlin where MPs are hassling American soldiers but it's the future I think he has to earn it next time.

Hey, name some good shows that I don't need to be stoned to enjoy.

Ozark is a decent show despite its clear heritage / homage to Breaking Bad.

Twin Peaks is essential watching, despite season 2's problems. S1-2 on Netflix, S3 on whatever streaming thing Showtime has.

Bloodlines S1 is one of the best shows I've ever seen up until the last 5 minutes, which left such a foul taste in my mouth that I never even tried S2. But just turn it off a few minutes before the end and you'll have an incredible experience assuming you like ultra slow burn shows.

Better Call Saul is one of the best character studies of all time. I bounced off of it at first as I went in with the expectation that it would be a dramedy featuring that wacky lawyer guy from BB. That's not what it is, at all. Go in with no expectations and let the show work on its own terms.

The Good Place is just a fun romp. It's a comedy and while it's funny at times it's more about just having fun with this group of people. It has the same tone and spirit as Kimmy Schmidt but is a better show imo.

The OA gets poo poo on a lot but I thought it was amazing. Yes, even that scene in the finale. It's great. It's a show about the power of belief vs doubt and the bonds that develop between people. It's dark and weird and intense and compelling and there's nothing quite like it. But, I'm a sucker for the narrative trope of the unreliable narrator

Jessica Jones is amazing.

Legion is amazing.

Mad Men is amazing.

X-Files is on Hulu and seasons 1-5 are still fantastic. Even the mytharc stuff holds up through season 3.

Seconding Legion, I just started that. Man Seeking Woman is pretty great, though I can’t vouch for the final season yet.

Neo Yokio is one of those things where it's a pastiche of something but also really, really openly disdainful of the thing it's a pastiche of. Your opinion of it is probably gonna be inversely proportional to how much you actually like anime.

I liked the ending but I also post paragraphs about why Neo Yokio is good

On the subject of docs, Dirty Money is still my fav Netflix documentary since 13th. if anyone hasn't seen those, go check them out for sure! i didn't care so much for Icarus but it's also worth seeing i guess. Anything else great that I've missed? Rotten seems ok from the first episode. Voyeur was interesting in one of those "it's about thing but really it becomes about things" ways.

The pharmaceuticals episode as well. Never thought I'd be able to understand why Shkrelli was so cocky about what he did, but seemingly the entire industry is infected with a profit-off-death cancer and what he did was quite loving mild in comparison. Humans Can Not Be Trusted With Capitalism

e: on the subject of trump docs, The Boy Who Tried to Kill Trump was horrible. i didnt even know the story till i read the netflix description, and literally the description & title fills you in all you need to know. the doc consists of interviews with the family as you'd expect, revealing nothing except that it was a shock to them that he would try that. and repeatedly features clips of some GBS goon yelling at the kid in handcuffs "Violence is never the answer!" and I guess that was the thesis of the documentary
