I know we've said it again and again, about how humans evolved hands for petting. There has to be a montage out there of animals (of all varieties including squid and mola) demanding pets! And yeah Major is damned handsome in that scarf.

Basically Major is like a cartoon dog from a Disney movie. The one that's gruff and a bit aloof but he mentors the other dogs/animals and would defend them to the death.

That opens a whole new universe of petting options I was only somewhat aware of. Petting a shark? A lemur? An octopus? Someone needs to start like the Petting Everything Travel Service (PETS) where you get vacation packages to pet exotic animals.

She is an excellent hugger but she also smells like a barn and drools a lot because she's teething. This year I'm hoping to have a puppy kissing booth to donate to the Mongolian Bankhar Dog Project which gives awesome LGD puppies to herder families in order to protect their flocks and wild predators such as snow leopards and, perennial thread favorite, pallas cats. I'm going to Mongolia this summer and really want to hug those eyebrow dogs.

Isn't it at least partially that most domestic breeds of cat are descended from cats native to deserts and drier areas, while the fishing cat is native to wetlands and bengals are bred from leopard cats, which are native to forests (tropical and otherwise)? I mean, it always made sense to me that a breed descended mostly from desert cats is going to be way less comfortable in water on average, even if individuals may be more okay with it.

I’m not sure of the exact science behind it, but at least with my lard rear end cat it’s the faucet, not the water, that he hates. A running faucet means bath time is freak out time, but a big tub of slightly above room temperature water is mostly OK. (Still some sad whining involved but he doesn’t try to murder you to escape.) It’s probably more the noise than the getting wet part.
