If squatting alone i think it should be considered stupid no matter what your skill or strength level to squat without safety bars in place. Even elite lifters gently caress up. Its just not worth it. Same when benching however i dont bench with safety bars but i never bench with collars on.

Doing 1-2 warmup sets will help you figure out the right height but even of theyre a little too low will save you from infinitely more injury than no bars at all.

Can you not just continue sinking until the bar rests on the safeties? I’ve never had to bail on a squat, luckily, only once on bench (no collars 4 lyfe)

it's not too hard to avoid loving yourself up when dropping a barbell. the closest i've come to hurting myself is when i've tried to hold on to the bar for too long as it's already falling

try pointing your elbows more downwards at the top and that will straighten out your form in general because it looks like you're leaning forward from the beginning

definitely do some work with an empty barbell to get it right

Yeah the forward lean I exaggerated too much because dudebro that's coaching me said I need to lean forward a bit and I overcorrected. Guess the best mental cue I know is to try and keep the bar over mid foot.

If you're squatting high bar, you should try to keep your torso as upright as possible. The bar is way in front of your feet at the bottom, which makes you lean forward even more, ideally it should be in the middle.

High bar isn't on your neck, it's pretty much where you have the bar, and has more to do with how you move your body. Low bar is almost under your shoulders.

And just do what juggernaut says for squatting. You'll be way better off than trying to squat low bar starting strength style.
