Amebix and Sacrilege are really good, they both make me wish I could have seen them live in a small dingy pub somewhere.

They begin again

I can’t find the post that reminded to listen to the new BTBAM but drat it’s so good. It feels loving great to love a new track of theirs right away. I’ve had a rocky relationship with them since Colors (yes I’m the one person who never got into that album) but this is a great direction to go in. I’m glad they’re keeping all the prog too and not going back to Alaska again.

hell yeah, this and the hot for teacher cover pretty much made my morning over here.

Why do you think their lead singer isnt there anymore? I saw them live not too long ago and he was there.

Is it because of this song?

Speaking of weird genre labels: I never bothered checking out Amebix because I figured "well I know what Swedish crust and those millions of blackened crust bands sound like, so how different could they be?"

Whoops, it turns out that English 80's crust a) is incredibly loving metal, and b) sounds like you took Venom and Motörhead, slowed them wayyy down, cranked up the bass, and made them a wee bit goth. I probably shouldn't have ignored the hundreds of times Amebix and other early crust bands were name-dropped by bands I like!

Floor is so goddamn good a singer that the rabid fanbase she has is almost justified. The only thing I find somewhat odd-but-endearing is how to pronounce her first name (I think it's supposed to be pronounced the same way you say "Flower" in spanish?).

Multiple bands did. At one point: Dark Tranquillity and Devin Townsend were supporting them for like a 3 month leg. A bunch of tour dates were basically 2-hour, no-opener dates. Enslaved supported them on Heritage, though.

Snowy posted:

The whole Duck family as a whole is.

On a gut feeling, I guess Scrooge and Donald are viewed more as their own separate things in the US, due to Duck Tales having just Scrooge and Donald having his own cartoons back in the day, but Finnish people have basically grown up with the Duck comics from Carl Barks etc since the '50s, so Donald and Scrooge are much more inseparable.
The weekly comic magazine is named after Donald, but on the other hand Don Rosa, who is absolutely revered over here, has very extensively focused on Scrooge. (it's his book Holopainen's album is based on, you can see him doing his art in the video Dyna Soar posted)

If anyone wants to know more (lol), feel free to PM me. I don't want to derail the thread further.

Pirate metal deserves to be taken seriously as part of this discourse and to be reviewed by the same standards as thrash, black, atmospheric black, doom, etc. metal and is in no way targeted for kids (drinking is a big theme in pirate metal)
