If you are a fan of cooking shows Nailed It is amazing. It's a bunch of bad amateur bakers who have to bake some artistically challenging baked goods in a short period of time. The results are pretty often disastrous and hilarious. I don't think I've cried watching a cooking show before, but both the 2nd and last episodes had me in tears.

When the grandma from Mississippi unveiled her pirate doughnut in episode 2 we had to pause it because we were laughing so hard. I don’t care if the rest of the series sucks or not. It was worth it just for that one moment.

I just finished it, and while it wasn't as good as season 1, I still enjoyed it.

Also just started Nailed It, and it's an absolute delight. Given the fact that the host Nicole Byer (who is generally an absolute treasure) is barely a presence in the show, the other poster earlier who couldn't stand her, I suspect that there is something else going on with that poster.

Alsooo. In the first episode, the karate contestant, his friends video included Kevin McHale from Glee, who just came out of the closet on instagram.

Oof, a quick glance at his rap sheet combined with that avatar backs this up.

Nicole Byer rules.

Also for post substance; I'm watching Love again after finishing season 3 so my girlfriend can watch too. After the bomb they drop about Gus in s3 I'm seeing a lot of stuff through a different lens.

The more I watched of Nailed It, the less I liked it.

To me, a goal of something like Weinstock's cake is more down to earth than the sushi or Trump cakes (although the final entry to that last one was a-loving-mazing). That first challenge seemed like it could go either way between success or failure and that's more interesting for me to watch than guaranteed failure.

And of course, the contestants being publicity whores. I know, it's reality TV, it should be expected, but it seemed more brazen/obvious with the later shows.

(The chick in episode 5 looked familiar; I'm almost positive that I've seen her in porn.)

I go the other way with it, because it's pretty clear that it's the competitors lack of experience and skill holding them back more than anything. I'm not sure what the producer's original intent was, but the contestants consistently fail at the basics. If they could execute simple concepts like putting a layer of buttercream in between layers when stacking cakes, or melting chocolate, they would pretty much always put something presentable out.

Altered Carbon the book is really good. The show was shockingly close in my opinion, but there are a lot of things that are changed, of varying significance.

Whatever flaws the first season of the show may have had, I think it's obvious that the world has major potential. The first season really did a nice job of laying a foundation and I hope they really use that and go off in some of the crazy directions that the books did.

Apparently there have been some comments from the show runner that they’re gonna go off and do their own thing with Kovacs and Quell, so, uh, gently caress that.

What does that mean, "go off and do their own thing"? As in, do something on a completely different platform other than Netflix?

That’s what makes it funny. It’s a pretty laid-back competition where the contestants are clearly being set up for failure. An amateur baker can’t really be expected to recreate an intricate cake in like a 1/4 of the time a professional baker would do it. My only beef with the show is the first round prizes. How come some contestants got a bad rear end stand mixer and some got cake decorating kits???

Jesus, I liked that show but the whole "resistance" flashbacks were pretty weak, and the whole love story between Kovacs and Quell was so tiresome. I liked it early on when Kovacs was a washed up rebel commando for a cause that had died hundreds of years ago. The more they focused on rehashing the flashbacks and the whole Quell romance angle, the more I was bored. Give me more of that cyberpunk, "man unstuck from time" private eye.

First episode of Frankenstien was good. Gonna keep watching. Did anyone else see the opening scene and think "oh god it's one of these cheap shows" because of how obvious it was that it was filmed in a tank, but then all of a sudden it's got ridiculously high production values and proceeds to look fantastic? Thought that was really weird.

Watched the Ricky Gervais special. Dude can be really funny at times, but goddamn he is just insufferable for the most part at this point. His early stuff was so good, but I don't think I can deal with him anymore. I get that being a smug irritating pos is kind of his shtick but it's just grating. Also, avoid it like the plague if you were one of the people who got really worked up over Dave Chappelle's trans bit, because he basically just steals it, doubles down on it and makes it 5 times as long.

I swear, every Netflix show seems to have like one good season of content, then falls apart in season 2. I'm trying to think of exceptions to this, and am only coming up with Bojack Horseman and Narcos. House of Cards Season 2 was great, but we all know how that turned out going forward.
