Today I saw an odd sight. I walk past a really sketchy "backpackers inn" on the way home from work every day. It's tiny and I've never seen anyone who didn't look borderline homeless coming or going from it or the poorest and dirtiest of crusty backpackers. I was surprised when I heard angry yelling in mandarin coming from the door, followed by a middle aged chinese dude in full safari gear and a big fancy camera setup leaving the building, pulling a suitcase. He was yelling at his wife to come out, but she was busy screaming, once again in mandarin, at the backpacker hostel staff and she left. Pointing to things, holding some paper up and pointing to that. She was head to toe in tacky "brand name" clothing as was pulling equally tacky "brand name" luggage. When screaming at the staff in mandarin didn't get her anywhere she decided to block the door and instead scream at her husband (blaming him for the booking?) while he just kept mumbling something back and gesturing for her to follow him. Finally some dudes in crusty dreads wanted to go outside to smoke and had to gently push the screaming lady out of the way. She kept screaming at everyone as she walked away with her safari photographer husband. It was enough of a scene that a bunch of people in the area stopped to gawk at the strange people having a public meltdown outfront of the hostel. Best guess was they somehow booked this place to stay because it was cheap and were upset when they saw the conditions and clientele?

So that sexy old Guangdong lady I slipped the gummy worm to and later coached how to snag herself an American went to America some months ago. She was fine and then suddenly disappeared one day. Weeks later, no reply, no update on Wechat, etc., I sent her a message again to check if she was okay, and she finally replied. Apparently she found herself a rich white man. She told me about him and sent me photos, and it's kind of funny to me because the guy is in great shape with muscles and without any noticeable fat (he even has a jaw and neckline), in his 50s, owns a house in an area where houses go for 1-2 million to start, owns his own business, travels around the world all time, buys whatever he wants, and all other "successful person" qualities, and it took him like two chats with her to ask her to move in with him. So now she lives with him and sits around his house while he's at work. I asked many questions about her safety or if he's a freak, because it's a odd to have a loaded, handsome, active guy pull a desperate move like that. Usually we can expect that kind of stuff from older, huskier guys that have never had any luck with the ladies, but it's obvious by looking at the dude that he wouldn't have that problem anywhere he goes. She says he likes to make the decision for her. LOL. I asked what else, and she said in the future if she stays with him he will make all the choices and do whatever is needed to be done, she just sits and waits. I told her that wasn't good. She said he talks a lot of stuff about partnerships and goals, and she showed me some messages he sent while he was at work. It was like "I need you to be enjoying X and good at Y. This is important for the both of us." She feels really confused and can't understand why he keeps talking that way, so I had to tell her my thoughts that he is a big baby about control, it's weird as gently caress in most cultures to ask a total stranger to live with you, and his messages make it seem like he's not thrilled about you and wants you to be different. She was bummed, but she also felt strange in his house. Reading his messages was weird and I got a vibe that he's got some creepy side and issues going on that he I hope he can bottle up until she goes back to China. It's probably just mindless copying. They got it in their mind that glass-walled bathrooms means your place is fancy, so everyone starts copying it in order to appear fancy without ever questioning its practicality. Kind of like why rich Asians keep decorating their homes in that crappy "Versailles" style.

You know how newer cars have "Back up" cameras so you can see where you're going when backing up since you're a lovely driver? I have decided to install a similar style camera in my toilet and shower that can be accessed by the wi-fi in my house, taking the glass wall philosophy and bringing into the 21rd century.
