The reserves are plenty stupid but having a civilian occupation seems to do wonders for the collective common sense. I'm still the idiot who is reenlisting for another 4 years, obligated, at my RECC though.

Oh there's a definitely a month's worth of stupid in a weekend, but then I get to go home. It actually kind of helps because the leadership is always so focused on big poo poo like RHRP, BITS, etc that all the stupid crap and games that happen when there's too much time to fill just fall off to the side and we can focus on actually getting stuff done for the weekend. The common sense stuff I'm talking about is more about balancing priorities. I remember active duty being like "we need you to drive 40 hours without sleep through this hurricane to get to formation on time or you'll be charged" whereas in the reserves when someone has a reasonable issue getting there the response is "okay cool, let me know when they get here." Active duty NCOs were always obsessed with lying and covering for each other for being late whereas in the reserves we can just look at a situation and determine it's reasonable and not waste time with stupid games like that.
