Used my week off to binge anout 70 hours of game of thrones with the free 7 day trial of the hbo channel on prime, I'm probably gonna wind up keeping it because there's a pretty decent selection of movies and all the original series, all without having to download a seperate app for it.

You'll still run out of things to watch more quickly than you might think, but HBO is a great sub to pick up for like 2-3 months out of the year and just binge everything then drop it for a while.

If we're talking incredible fight scenes, everyone should watch Banshee. It's on Amazon Prime.

Is all of Banshee on Amazon now? Last I looked it was missing the last season or two.

I loved the naturalistic vibe and Willem Dafoe as a put-upon father figure. The lead actress was an unknown that the director discovered on social media, and the kids are also all new and so great.

I thought the mellow rhythm of it was so melancholy, and it nailed the bored summer vibe. I really felt for the characters.

The DVD had a BTS bit where Sean Baker explains that the tampon moment actually happened to him when he worked at a movie theater. Blargh...

If you have access to HBO Go/Now, you really need to watch the Garry Shandling documentary. It's amazing. Well done. Great interviews with his friends and co-workers. All the footage he recorded for whatever purposes were all used perfectly. Someone said that he's' basically telling his story from beyond the grave.

I love Garry, but if ever there was something made for watching at 1.5-2x speed it's this documentary.

(and can't post for 10 years!)

I finally binged through Black Mirror season 3, it's really less about big ideas and more about good-to-great acting and casting. Crocodile had the most minimal of sci-fi spins to the hoary old noir trope of a relatively normal person doing ever darker crimes to protect themself but always missing the final detail, but it was done so well that I just didn't care. Metalhead was just about a killer robot apocalypse but it was so tense and well-shot that I was gripped. They were all solid entries except for that museum episode at the end.

I think maybe it had too much of the 'looking at words he wrote in his journals.' But his words and thoughts are an important part of it. I guess they could have done a Ken Burns and had his comedy friends read the quotes instead.

Also watching Bob Saget getting all teared up was something.

I do think it's definitely still worth watching at least through part 1. It moves much quicker than part 2, and makes a fine case for Garry's legacy in comedy.

Yeah. This is what gets me when people criticize Black Mirror for not bring profound enough or whatever. It's a good show because it generally has a great cast, good writing and nice production values not because every episode needs to blow your mind.
