Unless noted investigative journalism rag "www.maga1776.com" actually did all the legwork to find these numbers, we can assume that they just got the number off some alleged gov't site or paper. Well, *cite* your drat sources people. I would be totally willing to believe there was a massive uptick in HT arrests if someone pointed me at a credible source for it, but your lovely MAGA blog is not really a convincing argument for anyone not already firmly in your pocket. I realize this is idiots making memes for idiots, but as someone who's worked in research it's frustrating to see a blatant disregard for the utter basics of sourcing your data.

Fortunately the wayback machine has it: https://web.archive.org/web/20171218082412/www.maga1776.com/rescue.html The 2017 number includes every news story about human trafficking from anywhere in the world in 2017 - Sweden, Canada, Nigeria, etc. Data for 2016 (and presumably previous years, another broken link) is only arrests made by ICE within the US. I took a few minutes to add up all the non-US cases, and got 1,497. So *assuming* the rest of the chart is accurate, that's still a substantial increase. That said, do we have any remotely good reason to trust this chart's methodology at this point? What I'd really like to see is the equivalent total US numbers from the exact same source, but for 2017, which would provide an actual (theoretically) consistent data set for the chart. EDIT: from earlier in 2017, but Reason has a good breakdown of the silliness of the numbers. Part of it is that they're taking *very* limited snapshots of previous years' data (like not even from all 50 states) and for 2017 they're counting basically anything that they can get their hands on that involves the sex trade, including apparently people buying sex from freely consenting adult sex workers. In one example case: quote:478 people arrested in a statewide California sting that included zero sex-trafficking arrests, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. One-hundred and forty-two men were arrested for attempting to pay consenting adult women for sexual activity. Thirty-six men were arrested for pimping. The rest of those arrested—300 in total—were women taken in on prostitution charges or people in trouble for charges unrelated to commercial sexual activity. This was exactly my question: are they busting women (and men) sex workers and counting *their* arrests as "human trafficking arrests"? Yay I’m so happy this thread exists, I been craving it. For a while I was relishing the day this all comes crashing down when Mueller hands out his findings and mysteriously every democrat isn’t in gitmo. I saw a post last week on thegreatawakining where people were starting to wonder why nothing has happened, and the consensus response was ‘of course hundreds of people are arrested and the swamp is almost all drained, it’s just SECRET and maybe will never be made public since it’s too scary’. These people are going to their graves annoying their grandchildren about how great Trump was and saved America by draining the swamp, no matter what reality says. It’s the perfect defense mechanism and aggrandizement that they can never be wrong about, and America’s greatest shame is actually the worlds greatest accomplishment.
