Aside from nostalgia, Days of Purgatory pretty clearly improved the material from Iced Earth's early days.

You know, Burnt Offerings had a really good remix that greatly improved the original. In fact I'd say it's one of the best production jobs I've heard on an album from that era.

Speaking of production, Parallels by Fates Warning is done really well. The sound is very clean and I like how balanced the mix is.

In my neverending search for crusty death metal I stumbled across this band called Leper, which is described as "blackened crust punk infused with ska and reggae". I make no claim that this is any good, but it is certainly unique so I thought I would share here:

I would probably enjoy this live, if I was given no prior warning but access to beer. Your post also made me look up how many bands with "Ska" in the genre field there are on the Metal Archives. Three! And I already knew one of them, from the Eurovision Song Contest of all places.

Not sure if this has been posted here yet, but Megadeth is releasing a deluxe version of Killing is my Business which includes These Boots, live tracks ripped from a bunch of VHS cassettes Dave Mustaine found in his attic, and their original demo tape. $30 for the red vinyl version which includes flyers and poo poo, not too bad IMO.

If we're talking new cool releases, Leviathan has a new comp coming out hot on the heels of 1st Sublevel of Suicide last month.
https://leviathanwrest.bandcamp.com/album/unfailing-fall-into-naught
Same deal as 1st Sublevel if you checked it out as far as the physical release, can't speak to the music. It's all available on that bandcamp link but I might save my listen for when I get the physical copy in.

The Megadeth discussion makes me wonder: What re-recording "remaster/remix" projects have improved upon the original version? It seems like a lot of them are mostly either ego projects or attempts to gently caress old band members or record labels over for one reason or another.

Personally, I'm throwing the 20th Anniversary re-do of Dog Fashion Disco's Erotic Massage into the ring, primarily because, well, unlike the original version it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a bedroom or public restroom (song depending).

(Also, its version of Looking For Love/Where Have You Gone/whatever it's called this week is sublime but that's neither here nor there)

Thank you for this. I had no idea it existed until now. Easy upgrade!

Worship bands own when they are just a continuation of a band that is no longer around's sound or a better version of said band. Like how Thulcandra just picked right up where Dissection left off after Storm of the Light's Bane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm5pRkmsybw
Right down to asking Necrolord to just do more Dissection cover art but change the name to theirs

I haven't seen Nile since their 2000 tour with Cannibal Corpse, The Crown and Krisiun, which looking back, was an awesome loving tour. But really, it's the Karl Sanders show, so I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal without Dallas.
