Oh, well, that's all water under the bridge, as I always say. Water under the bridge!

Does the first DLC get good? I only got like an hour into it before kinda lost interest. So much mountains, the lamest environment.

It picks up more about halfway through and has (what I thought) was a pretty strong end with some pretty decent set-pieces. It's more AC:O, which made me happy, but I didn't really feel wowed by the plot. It does sort of do some legwork in establishing the Assassin's Order a bit more, if you're into the narrative. I'll agree with you that the environment does suck quite a bit, and is not a lot of fun to traverse.

Curse of the Pharaohs blows it out of the water though, just in terms of presentation, mechanics, and new gear.

Curse of the Pharaohs is the best DLC because while it's largely set in more of the Memphis/Giza area from the main game, it's also set in four different takes on the Egyptian afterlife. Akhenaten's is my favourite.

I loved Akhenaten's and Nefertiti's. They were all cool in their way, but those two were stunning.

The 2nd one is great - at first I was afraid they'd go for some bad zombie story, but besides the connections to the AssCreed background stuff with "aliens", the story is quite nice and the side quests are good.

Am I missing something or do the carbon crystals you get in The Hidden Ones' area not count towards upgrading your gear? I just found three in a chest and I want to make my new game+ equipment stronger but the game tells me I've got a whopping zero crystals.

I stared at this post for about twenty seconds, trying to take it in, because it's utterly absurd and I have no doubt it is completely true. Like, you could tell me getting 100% sync causes a truck with Mew inside to appear when you exit the Animus and I'd believe it.

What I'm saying is, welcome back, Assassin's Creed. I unironically missed your dumb, overly convoluted bullshit plot.

fake e: the reason the Mew truck stayed secret for so long is no one gives a poo poo about anything outside the Animus

yeah I started this a few days ago and it's really really good. It's kind of unfortunate it came out the same year as Zelda and Horizon because Ubisoft really nailed it with this one in terms of quality of life improvements, combat, being able to climb everything, implementing simple but fun RPG elements, and good characters.

AC4 was a nice quasi-AC game (it felt more like a pirate thing unrelated to the series) but this brings me the same fun factor and "just one more activity" feelings as I got from AC2 waaaaay back in the day.

Goddammit, Rogue makes me want an AC game where you play an architect with zero training, just renovating the city while evading kill squads sent by business rivals.

Does Unity or Syndicate offer the more involved side content?

PureRok

If by side content you mean buying and/or building things, then I remember Syndicate has zero of that. It's all missions/collectibles.

Syndicate has a loose “gang management” thing but it’s literally just a skill tree that gives you buffs in exchange for cash. There’s no fluff or anything at all to it.

Unity has you renovating a cafe
