Why not a screengrab? Surely other people went searching on FB as soon as the name was dropped so you'd think there'd be other screens out there. I mean, I've seen screenshots of two different wrong guys all over Twitter tonight, why is there only one photo of this allegedly correct one?

Looks like the screenshot was taken at 4 p.m. Toronto time, which is clearly after reports were starting to come out that this guy's name was Alek Minassian; I was able to find Twitter evidence of that at about 3:22p.m. EDT from CBS. I'm trying to go back further, but Twitter is not the easiest to work with for never-users like myself. I'll let the thread know when I find the first reports with his name there. Given that his name had been out in public for about 40 minutes, one would expect that there would be about a million people who had spread his Facebook around rather than just the couple of lousy photographs of mobile phones. Twitter is a cesspool, of course. There are a lot of people there who were very clearly hoping for this attack to fit into one of their meta-narratives. First, the folks who triumphantly insisted it was an attack perpetrated by a Muslim terrorist - even a Syrian refugee - based solely on its modus operandi (as if nobody else is capable of renting a van), came out, but all but the most recalcitrant slunk back off to their holes when names and photos were released. Then, the backlash by the folks who, with seemingly equal glee, have apparently decided that Armenians are the very picture of the historically privileged white Canadian mainstream, presumably to the extent that it was Armenians that Sir John A wanted to protect when he bleated about the preservation of British Canada's "Aryan" character back in 1885, and that they are simultaneously the exactly one group of white Canadians who are so uniform that their current religious affiliation is determined solely by their name. If nothing else, it certainly goes to show the extent to which race is a social construct. Way back when things were still up in the air, I tried spitting into the deluge and suggesting that we really can't say whether it's terrorism until we know why it was done, but the post seems to have gone unnoticed. EDIT: Yeah, the first twitter mention - aside from one in 2013, which could well be relating to the same guy - was at 3:22 p.m. EDT. This leaves our enterprising potential troll at least 35 minutes to concoct a Facebook page, and longer if CBS News mentioned his name on air before it showed up on twitter. I've seen law enforcement quoted by multiple new orgs as verifying the Elliot Rodger connection. It's not exactly shocking that extreme misogyny manifests as senseless murder, it happens literally every day. Whether or not this is classified as terrorism seems just like a dumb political football over a word that has lost all meaning, but it certainly seems like it was a hate crime.

Right after this happened, I also saw law enforcement sources (typically American) declare him to be a known terrorist as well, which doesn't seem to have panned out. A hate crime against whom? Men ("Chads") and women ("Staceys") more successful in dating than him? From the sounds of it, that'd be just about everyone.

It is the same reason I would treat a ramming attack in the middle of Harlem differently from one done on Wall Street. I just don't see the same thing here, because this guy appears to have attempted to indiscriminately run down anyone and everyone who happened to have been walking on a two kilometre stretch of Yonge Street, which as Torontonians are very proud to point out contains just about every group of people imaginable. As far as I know, it could have been any street in any city in the world. When a hated group expands to include nearly everyone, hate crime - much as you described terrorism as having done - starts to lose its meaning. People are grasping for a motive so they can understand what happened. Unfortunately, at this point I don't think we have any evidence indicating why he did this.
