I have enjoyed the two hours I got! It seems to be a very good game, but is crashing for some people or... having problems starting the Campaign? It's not universal. There are some quality-of-life things they could use control-wise, that I have literally zero doubt will actually come in a patch or two.

It probably wouldn't hurt to wait for a stability/QoL patch.

Yes, I know I'm old, get off my fucking lawn so I can yell at these clouds.

Finally got a chance to play - hooray half day at work.

People complaining about extreme pacing issues - i think someone mentioned 7 seconds before a mech fell over after it died - could it be a system thing? I'm not seeing anything like that. There's a slight delay as the damage scrolls up from the attack, but nothing beyond what was there in beta. Sure as hell not a 5+ second delay.

I'm on a good but not great system (2015 era i5 processor, 16gb of whatever the good ram was in 2015, gtx970, SSD for both OS and games) and I"m not seeing any of those issues.

Likewise for the people complaining of really long load screens. I have loads, but nothing too insane. Maybe 15 seconds to get into a map?

Games' good so far. Really liking it. The beta was a good indicator of how the actual combat would turn out, and it's treating me well.

I just went through the Steam reviews and, while there are 4-5 hateful "my space safezone" ones, most of the negative reviews are, in order:
- crashes
- no widescreen/borderless window mode
- paradox account login
- unpolished graphics / gameplay complaints

In that order. All things considered, it looks like a lot of people are having stability issues at the moment, which is never great for early reviews - as most people having a good time are playing, and the ones crashing are all flooding the comment section instead.

E: also Cohh has more than 12k people watching his play-through of Battletech and that to account for some good publicity.

E2: that goonish easter egg :D

Yeah it's up to "mixed" by now, and it does seem to be mostly due to those issues. Some of the issue is definitely that Paradox/HBS games are generally intended for a very specialised and dedicated audience, who have a fair bit of patience with the quirks of a small indy games producer. This game seems to have generated a lot of hype among more mainstream gamers, which is actually a good thing (for keeping HBS and Paradox in the black), but isn't so great for early reviews.

Also, I set mine to install in Steam before leaving for work today, and will get to see if I have issues tonight. Lol.

I think SSD may be the big difference in here.

E: regarding loading time / damage resolution. Also Cohh, is talking about how this game is not meant for everyone, but it's the best thing in 10y for tactics enthusiasts and/or Battletech fans.

E2: apparently he was talking about the mixed reviews on Steam and was not aware about the crashes.

It's a bit of a bummer, as far as I know we've never claimed to support Ultra-wide and has said as much to those that have asked. If you have 2 monitors the game does behave like windowed borderless, as least my install does. But I don't know how it works on just running one monitor.

Close minded people can afford to live in their bubble most of the time and they don't like it when it gets pierced by something, especially if they are not expecting it.

If it gets tanked by reviews now (due to it being totally broken) then the plug will get pulled and no more Battletech. They'll want more than just die hards playing it, which means it has to be appealing, reviews matter for that.

Yeah, that. There is potential for a franchise - same as with HBS's Shadowrun games - and we'd like to see this happen as we haven't had a BT-MW new game in a long time (apart from :pgi: stuff and MWLL, and it was just Multiplayer stuff anyway).

Plus there is some goon involvement in the project - both on the HBS and Paradox side - so it's kinda "rooting for the home team" as well.

I've maximized the armor for the starting Blackjack totally, everywhere. I've got 1 AC/2 and 4 MLs + 3 heat sinks + 4 JJs. Is that a good build or should I sacrifice like 6 tons of armor to cram on another AC/2

Steam Reviews tend to even out one way or another, but it's sales that really matter. I mean, Vermintide 2 has blown up in a way the first game never did and is currently running a 64% rating on Steam, and of course PUBG has sold over 30 million copies and has never been rated "positive." Battletech is currently one of Steam's top sellers, and some measure of dev costs were obviously hoisted on its KS backers so I'd be very surprised if no more BT.

Because bad Steam reviews can hurt sales and the ability to get Steam promotions, it matters less for the end user of course. It's less of an issue if the reviews actually relate to the game, but in our case a lot of them are hating on "censorship" and "They". Which again matters less when there are more reviews, but can trigger a negative spiral which is kind of what's happening right now.

People that are crash clearly have legit concerns but at least we have a support them for that, we can't really do much about the broflakes.

I really don't see Paradox doing this. They seem to "get it" in a way that other publishers probably wouldn't. With luck it will do well enough that they can buy the license from Microsoft, BattleTech is right up their alley and my secret hope is that we'll get a Crusader Kings style grand strategy game set in the BattleTech universe out of it.

AC/2s are kind of mediocre, they do the damage of an ML but just at longer range. You're better off just maxing that armor tbh. Hell I'd drop the other AC/2 and upgrade one of the MLs to a Large Laser.

Anyway, question. I'm thinking of actually playing this semi-ironman instead of neurotically savescumming like I usually do in these types of games. Is the only fail-state running out of money? Also, I know that your custom pilot can't technically die but others can. Seeing as it gives you a specific set of characters to start with, if too many get wasted does it generate new pilots, or is there a hard limit?

There's a lot of procgen pilots too, it's just the starters and the kickstarter backers that are pre-set.
