The Shadow Hawk properly outfitted is the star of the show for a long time. I refitted mine to have an SRM4 in the head, SRM6 and SRM4 in the torso, kept the medium laser in the arm, and gave it a small laser for extra melee punch. Put the rest of the tonnage on armour and maybe one heatsink, I can't remember. This beast was the mainstay of my lance for a long, long time, able to brawl with most heavies and come out on top thanks to top-tier armour and really good damage output once I got some + SRM weapons. I was still using it until I got my first assault mech and had two heavies in the lance too, it was just that useful.

This is literally my build, except I drop some armour for four JJs and two heatsinks. It's pretty screwed just how much damage it can put out. Only drawback is it's stuck at ML range only, but that's what SHD's speed and the JJs are for.

Unfortunately, Dekker died in the very first mission and Behemoth died later on, too. I picked up another random mechwarrior named Download who has a Wisconsin accent, though, and she owns.

Wow the Blackjack is trash. Overheats instantly, can't move, arms constantly blow off. What an heirloom! :allears:

Also on this moon mission I thought I understood initiative but I clearly don't. The shadowhawk escort DFA's my BJ, then two rounds in the same turn later punches me to KO my Blackjack. I thought you could only go once a turn? How do I double up? It went round two then round 4.

e: I...guess my Incapacitated pilot can just stand up and keep going? Does "Incapacitated" not mean anything?

Is it worth trying to get the Quickdraw in one piece on the moon mission or will you get more heavy mechs thrown your way soon afterwards?

Okay so the Blackjack is a 45 tonne medium so its actually just barely above a light mech, also on that moon mission you have penalties to heat sinks so anything that has some heat issues will be crippled by it on that map type.

So initiative can allow you to reserve mechs between different phase and move mechs around in different phases. Did the shadowhawk get hit by a precision strike or get knocked over or get hit by a pilot with the 2nd Guts skill? Did any of your mechs get knocked down?

You definitely cant go twice in the one turn but you can say, go in round 4, then when the next turn starts, trigger off in round 2. What happened between the enemy shadowhawk's two turns?

I get there are penalties but it's never approached overheating. The hawk didn't reserve it's turn, it attacked then attacked again. In round 2, the hawk DFA'd my BJ. In round 4, my locust moved and attacked. In round 4, the hawk melee'd and attacked. This ended the turn. The next turn, my Incapacitated Pilot stood up and punched it back.

Are you sure its not just being knocked down and the pilot is just wounded? Because the stand up button is specifically for mechs being knocked over. How many wounds does this pilot have underneath their picture?

Beat the Quickdraw boss mech on the moon mission in a funny way. She jump jetted up onto a little tower Mesa thing and unleashed one really devastating barrage against one of my mechs and I was like welp. Next turn- she overheats and isn't a threat for the remainder of the fight. It still took forever for us to take her down though. My Dekker is still in a stock starting spider and even 3 turns of consecutive laser hits to the rear of mechs seems to have no impact. Gotta get him into something with teeth!

I guess just the wrong message, though it was the main character pilot if that impacts things like that. I know they can't die at least.

I'd be more annoyed about the bj going away but it never really accomplished anything and kept losing body parts lol

Yeah so the BJ really needs to be kept back and when you get a chance yank one of the Medium lasers off of it and pump up its armour. By default it starts very low. Alternatively, replace the AC/2s with 1 AC/5 and beef up armour, maybe strip a Medium Laser too if you need it. You want a blackjack at the back and the shadowhawk way in the front.

This is my Blackjack build, from when I still used it - keep it as far back as possible and just lob dual AC/5 shots at stuff. For the Argo moon mission I didn't bother with the MLs, heat's too big a problem - just put it into frontal armour as the AC/5's range means you're not gonna be in a position to get flanked anyway.

edit: now that I think of it, my Jagermech is just a bigger Blackjack; three AC/5s instead of two. I know I can do two AC/10s for the same tonnage, but I'm not sure if I want to.

No. Neither is walking distance, which would be nice to see.

(And not listed as kph or whatever the gently caress tabletop uses, but by loving hexes. Actually, distance measuring in this game needs an overhaul, since they're a bit arbitrary and don't show well in combat. Yeah, I know that they're there when you're choosing movement and stuff, but the game never spells it out for you that a hex is 30m so you can measure it out yourself)

Man how do Merc units ever go bankrupt with values like these right guys?...Oh, if WE sell one third of a commando it's not worth half a million credits? Huh.

Game crashed anyways, and the replay was a single spider+tanks... Which was honestly much better salvage despite being "Worth" 500k less because free LRM10 baby!

Items being worth garbage for resale is nothing unique to Btech. But putting that pricepoint reminder sure draws attention to it more than most games. Even if I expect the well meaning intention was to inform new players how much money you save scooping up materials rather than paying for it in stores.
