I wanted to puke by the time I hit the last mouse maze in the 7th palace. I was super determined to finally do an entire palace in a single in-game day and I just found the mouse parts to be boring and repetitive. And as fun as the last fights in the palace were, holy poo poo I just wanted to get out of there!

I didn't even know what the gimmick was in the 5th palace. I just killed everything. I stopped listening to what everyone had to say because I was bored.

"You can get by if you ignore the part where the game just loving lies to you, or skip the puzzle entirely" is a bad reason to say the game's not being lovely.

We clearly have very different experiences with that area then as I don't recall having nearly as much of an issue with it.

Secondly, is Akechi as ridiculously broken as he seems? Heavy Almighty damage to all enemies for 30hp? That's crazy, I've max affinity with Ann/Makoto/Yusuke/Ryuji and they've got nothing like that.

And what should one do to be remembered?
Physical damage skills are comparatively more costly than SP skills because of the abundance in HP recovery items/skills, correct? I still feel a little uneasy using a skill that costs Joker a fourth of his HP due to the horrible "dead leader=you lose" mechanic.

Yes, I know there are passives that reduce skill costs. :v:

I pretty much never use the physical skills at all myself. Inever had a battle that would have ended faster by using one that wouldn't have then cost me more in recovery.

The most broken skill he has is buried much deeper in his skill tree. The real damage dealers will be able to outpace him damage wise as they can stack amps, boosts and charge/concentrate to do the type of damage you will need for the endgame.

Edit: I always prefer physical skills as you can just spam them as much as you want and it just means you have to heal slightly more often then usual. That and the best non-dlc skill is a physical skill.

I think the pacing/structure helped it a lot, since you feel like you're making regular progress each time you finish a section and a new save room opens up. It's also what makes the sixth palace more bearable (that and forcing you to take a break).

Megidola(on) (which costs SP, not HP) is actually less efficient than the equivalent elemental spells (as a reference, Maragion costs 16 SP and Maragidyne costs 24). The advantage is that it can't be resisted, but it also means it can never hit a weakness, limiting his ability to get One Mores.

Hey is there some way I can get more EXP faster? I know you can get more cash using a fortune reading, but I'm trying to grind out the compendium on hard and I'm sitting near endgame not even having cleared level 60, so I don't know if there's a way to get to the higher levels easier or if I'm just gonna have to grind for a truly insane amount of money to fuse all those big personas.

Go to Mementos on Flu Season days (November 13/14 and December 8/9) and idle until the reaper comes for you. When he does, if he has the despair ailment at the start of the fight just slam rush mode until he kills himself. If he doesn't, flee combat and attack him again until he has despair. Then slam rush mode until he kills himself. Staggering amounts of EXP for very little effort

Just before the final boss there is a room with 2 spawns that give a poo poo load of XP which you can keep killing and resetting. I think i got up to level 82ish then crafted everything with the 4 million yen i had saved up. Keep in mind there is one you can only craft in new game plus so you'll want a couple mil to craft that if you are planning on doing it at low level.

Depends how near endgame you are. The Reaper is the best way to get EXP quickly, but if it's not a flu day you have to deal with him the old fashioned way.

But generally it's just easier to do all the big fusing in NG+ since you save a lot of money not needing to go to stat boost places; the only big expenditures you're doing then are Fortune/Temperance.

Azran posted:

You start a NG+ with a fresh lineup (so, just Arsene), but you can re-summon anything you've saved in the Compendium.

It also helps if you have the Star Confidant leveled enough to get the special escape ability, because then you let the Reaper ambush you, and if he doesn't have despair, you can 100% escape, as opposed to having to wait to do so otherwise.

I was considering trying to get all the trophies, but filling out the compendium was cool for all the dungeons where you can recruit nearly every demon, but in the endgame where it costs you a million dollars to resummon a level 90 demon you need for a group fusion that requires eight demons, gently caress that. If there were a more reliable way to cash grind, I'd maybe get back on board. It's also frustrating that you absolutely cannot use Yoshitsune against the secret boss unless you put him into your compendium after maxing Morgana's S-Link and then pulling him out in the next playthrough. I did my Merciless run without carrying anything over so I have to win the fight the very very very slow way.

This is from a week ago but I think a lot of the palaces wouldn’t have felt so long if the game mechanics didn’t incentivize you to do them all in one day. The game ends up being weeks of plot and stat building and whatever and then you spend 1 day grinding through this thing for 5 hours of gameplay. Even the best dungeon is going to feel tired after that long with no diversion. It barely didn’t feel overboard for palace 3, but my god palace 7 overstayed its welcome by multiple hours.

The weird thing is the way palace 2 has a big scene around getting past a blocker which also forces you to split it up a bit instead of slogging through it in one day. They really play up that whole scene and you think it’s going to be a thing in future palaces, and then it doesn’t happen at all other than a completely random wall in palace 6 which you get past by...having sae nijima notice you exist and that’s it. That thing really felt like they cut some planned content/story around it, it’s very odd and out of place

He's physically oriented in growth so his Almighty spells will do less than Ann's Concentration + Heavy/Severe fire or Ryuji's Charge/Physical. Yusuke's kinda bad because he focuses on single-target baton pass and multihit attacks... Neither of which are any good in boss fights. You can have Joker Down Shot a boss but you'll still do less damage than if you just had him whale on it normally. Makoto's also just not a damage dealer. Her thing is having a huge mana and HP total compared to anyone else.

Haru's really good for damage once you stack gun passives, though.

Just drop the difficulty down to easy so you have an increased money multiplier than either use Sun's boosted hold up on endgame enemies or confuse minibosses into throwing cash with your highest luck persona equipped.

"But I want to stay on Merciless" well then I don't think you really get to complain about optional completionist content being more tedious when you restrict yourself out of optimizing it!

Speaking of cut content, did you know that originally during the school trip you were going to visit a King Kamehameha statue. There are voice lines for the scene, anyway. In the final game, you.......don't do that.

I need to finish going through those story lines so I can finish uploading them. I've already got over 200 lines in my backlog of files and the thought of uploading and transcribing 200 voice files to TCRF makes me sick to my stomach, so I might as well just finish the job before I figure out how the hell i'm going to reasonably finish doing this

Also yes, 200+ unused voice files during the fourth palace/school trip chapter alone. That's more unused lines than I found in the entirety of Persona 4's main story. Thanks, Atlus.

I don't know of a total writeup, but I do know that Togo was supposed to be playable, and so following the game's pattern of one new character per castle, there might've been a whole other shogi-themed castle to go with her.
