Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

Ok game's fun overall, but I would love to know who designed/playtested the escort and base defense missions and said "yeah that works."

It is nigh impossible to defend the targets because the AI seems to prioritize the unarmored buildings/vehicles over my mechs. Last one I did started with a Jenner running into sensor range and one-shotting a building, followed by the game spawning a full lance behind the base, which ran up and alpha striked two buildings before I could get a turn, finished by the vehicles I was fighting speeding past my mechs to launch missiles at the buildings remaining now that the new lance was giving them spotting for indirect attacks.

It's like they looked at thirty years of terrible escort missions in games and asked how they could be worse.

Same here. Got 3 LRM10s in there and keeping an eye out for bigger ones.

I'm going to have to give this a try. My experience with LRMs has been pretty middling but it's probably because I'm using LRM5 typically.

I got hosed in the first Prison attempt but it gave me a chance to learn about positioning and not just going charging in with all four mechs in one spot.

Worked a lot better on my second try when I setup 3 mechs to focus down a single target and then delayed a Locust with LRMs to turn 1; hop up onto a wall, fire all the LRMs into a mediums backside, turn 4 hop back away and fire a few more over the wall for good measure.

I'm not sure how it compares to other options, it doesn't feel punchy even though the total damage is good. Main things to note for LRMs:
--all use the same ammo
--bigger ones just fire more shots, not more damage per shot
--The ++ versions with damage up increase damage by two per shot when base damage is 4. Those things are a 50% damage increase.

Yep, sorta.
Under [WHEREVER YOU INSTALLED IT]/Battletech/BattleTech_Data/StreamingAssets/data/simGameConstants, open up SimGameConstants.json in notepad++ or something. Then search for ShopSellModifier, it should be like 0.32 or something by default.

It has to be a bug. If you kill off the reinforcements before the main group, you'll still get a message about "Hostile reinforcements heading your way" after you take out the main group (and then the mission will end).

They're probably spawning prematurely.

LRM5s are actually pretty great, it's just that because of hardpoints you can't stack enough of them to really get much done. LRMs in general feel bad until you start shooting 30+ of them at once, two mechs doing that can generally score a knockdown.

Let me show you what to do with that mech I'm spoiling it since it has some uh gear on it that may be a spoiler?

I call it the "Sit the gently caress down". It will load just about any mech up in the game with enough stability damage that they will promptly have a lie down, does enough damage that called shots to the center torso just blip out most bad guys, AND since everything is long range you can keep it WAY the hell away from things that might blow it up because some of the stuff on it is literally irreplaceable.

EDIT: I probably put my ammo in dumb places, but it literally never gets touched.

Sell them and just use centurions. Those two barely qualify as heavy mechs and a centurion with an AC20 and 2 SRM6's will tear the rear end off of either one. The first good heavy mech you are likely to get is a dragon, which loving owns it must be said.

E: to put this in perspective, if I see a light mech with any evasion and a jaegermech on the field I'll kill the Jag first because it's the mech most likely to die in one or two salvos.

Centurion should be your workhouse mech because you can fit it out to be anything from an AC-20/SRM6 brawler to a LRM boat. I have a whole lance of the things in storage.

It's actually probably cause you weren't using a Centurion. Centurion trades mobility for like an extra 5 free tonage (sorta) so you can cram an LRM15+LRM5 combo. If you strip all the rear armor and are okay with minimal support equipment, you can even fit an LRM20 too.

To be fair you would struggle to do a better job of setting fire to my PC than Battletech itself just now. GPU running at 100% constantly, yes that's cool and good.

I got a Trap Sprung mission where the target in the powerful mech was a Locust and the trap that he sprung (before I ever saw him) was another Locust and 3 small tanks. That sounds like a 2 Skull mission to me, sadly I had traded for Salvage and the 135k I got for scrapping the Locust didn't quite cover the gap.

LRM boats are your primary way of killing and salvaging heavies. You'll often want to reserve your LRM boat to fire last after you've cleared out your desired target's evasion pips. This let's you maximize your damage since you can miss per salvo, evasion just consistently cuts into your damage instead of like a laser which either does all of it or none of it.

Also if you're trying to knock down a heavy then you want to usually hang on to your fire until after they activate in the turn so you can push cut the maximum stability bar. Remember that you can't knock someone down unless they're already unsteady so your can't just knockdown in one go. Once a heavy is down you can either kill it with focus fire or l let it hop up so you can down it again and again...
