Here's one of my 3 skull difficulty assassination missions.
That's a Dragon, 2 Quickdraws, 2 Hunchbacks, 1 Thunderbolt, 1 Cataphract, 2 griffins, a Panther, and a Demolisher tank (dual ac/20s) all converging in a single point.
I had 1 heavy mech at this point.

So... I hope they fix the bug. I just avoid Assassination missions now.

mate 3 skulls means your one heavy mech lance with less than 3 skulls will have problems (you can check your own skulls during deployment)

3 skulls means 3+ heavies barely break even

do 2 skulls and stories untill you have more heavies

The code is a curious hodpodge of various things crammed together into a game shaped thing.

Just from poking around in the dll I can see a lot of things that would cause performance problems.

Hopefully we'll get a patch soon to fix things.

As someone who started playing Battletech in 1989 and spent god knows how many hours filling in mech sheets, I so badly wanted this game to be good. I hope to hell they have a truckload of patches coming. I can see the promise the game has, but it's just so unfinished. I'd have rather them delayed it a few more months to get the glaring issues fixed.

And the funny thing is, my video card is a 980Ti and this game hammers it like nothing else I play. If I found out they slipped in a crypto currency miner in the code I would not be surprised. Would explain a lot of things.

not really digging this "fight four heavies and then have four more heavies show up as reinforcements by round 3" mission

i was planning to just finish the first objective then withdraw before someone got cored but then the game got stuck and wouldn't progress to the next turn when dekker ejected, which is the second time ive had a mission be unable to complete in any form once i ejected someone

Someone posted this in the comments to RPS' review #3 (he likes it now)

quote:

The fix to movement speed takes more effort as you have to modify the data for each mech individually, and it of course messes up some animations. However, the pointless delays between things was put in on purpose by the developers (god knows why), but it’s a 30 second fix to remove. It both speeds up the game massively and makes for a smoother experience:

– Go to:
Steam folder\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\
data\constants

(had to insert some line breaks here because the line continued outside of the comment field)

– Change the following lines in “audioconstants.json” so that they look like this:

“AttackPreFireDuration” : 0,
“AttackAfterFireDelay” : 0,
“AttackAfterFireDuration” : 0,
“AttackAfterCompletionDuration” : 0
“audioFadeDuration” : 0,

And you’re done.

my argo is almost maxed out and i have about 16 months of cash saved up, i just wish i knew where to buy better stuff

even with maxed out engines it still takes ~15 days to go from system to system and so flying around aimlessly looking at markets would end up pretty crazy expensive after half a dozen fruitless jumps

The Saddest Robot

I think the economic part of the game is pretty tight. Most of my campaign it felt like I was barely scraping by with the missions and downtime for repairs and healing.

This will probably change dramatically once I'm done shoveling my cbills into the upgrade furnace.

Check system tags. One recommendation to check of the top of my head is Sumire's homeworld, New Vandenburg. Its one of the biggest manufacturing centers in this region of space, including 'mech factories.

Granted getting there is hard in the early game. :v: but check system tags!

This game is definitely a Returns more than a Dragonfall and there are some very visible ways it suffers from having been made on a budget / being a first-take, but the core gameplay is very much there and I have high hopes for it in the future.

I wish they made infinite money and could afford to hire their own in-house art team.

Nah, the environment textures are all really low-res for some reason. Looks fine, even nice when zoomed out though, and the in-map art assets are cool. Strangely enough, the various destruction animations for buildings and stuff look way better than what MW5's been showing off.

I find the graphical presentation pretty uninspired tbh. The PGI Mechs weren't designed to be tabletop-style models and they don't have the right kinds of visual detail to really distinguish themselves in that context, many of the in-house graphics are like PS2 quality, and the overall design is just kinda bland and minimal. I'm not upset about any of this, mind you - they didn't have an AAA or even AA budget and the game couldn't have gotten made without these kinds of concessions - but they're very much noticeable, even if they don't impact the core gameplay.

To me the only truly horrendous look are the human character models. They're kind of pointless too, since they don't even really animate.

Yeah I kinda like the ponderousness of the mechs but my compromise now that the audioConstants.json thing is out and working is to turn on the debug menu and hit Speed on escorts, and leave it off for everything else. I leave the mech movement values at their defaults now.

Pause the timer right after you jump in system. You can view the store from the Jumppoint. If there's nothing good in the store just fly to the next system. Takes about 3-4 days for jumpship charge instead of ~15 to burn in and out.

yeah this is my problem

im apparently far enough in the story where the game, quite loudly, is telling me to suddenly start fielding full heavy lances but right now i only have scrabbled together two dragons and one jaegermech

the three of which im not overly impressed with

i could buy a third dragon but not sure if that'd help me any, my main problem whenever i try to field all of them at once is the jaeger doesnt seem good for much and softer than my good mediums, and the dragons excel if i can get them in range to just start knocking people over but if reinforcements has like eight LRM spamming assholes we're all screwed either way since heavy initiative starts so far behind

The colors are all muddy and subdued, even the deserts and ice maps are dark. The "fog of war" LOS being so short doesn't help either. Panning the camera around to get a good look at the models gives you a big dark background to everything.
