I wonder about that. When I was a kid .hack//Sign was on airing on television and while that is ostensibly way, waaaayyyy slower than Build Divers is it was still relatively popular.

Of course anime consumption is way different than back in like 2003 so perhaps its a moot point.

hack//sign felt like it was slow on purpose though. It had great atmospheric music, and a central mystery, and was largely dialogue driven. It was meant to be slow. But with Divers, if you described any episode in one or two sentences it wouldn't sound like a slow moving show. It's only when you watch it and see how little chemistry the characters have, and then put the episodes together and see how little progress they've made towards anything, that it's slowness becomes obvious.

It is. Should be up on hulu.

Also, NHK released the results for the big Gundam poll.

Top five shows were the original, Zeta, SEED, 00, and the Char's Counterattack movie. (IBO takes the spot if you exclude films, beating out Unicorn. It also had a surprisingly high percentage of female voters, even beating out SEED.)

Top suits were the Nu, the Zeta, Strike Freedom, Wing Gundam Zero, and the Freedom proper. The poor original Gundam only got to show its head at spot ten, below the F91.

As for characters, the top two were, naturally, Char and Amuro. But Kira was kicked down to four by Orga Itsuka, and Graham Aker scored more votes than Setsuna. Almost makes up for Gato being in the top ten.

Almost.

You know, for all that Try loving sucked, at least we got the Tryon out of it, which showed someone clearly gave some kind of a drat about the show they were working on.

Meanwhile, Build Divers introduces a kung-fu fighting NPC who heads a Shaolin monastery and instead of giving him some kind of cool kung-fu move as his ~special ultimate attack~, he gets an incredibly generic and boring fireball. :effort:

It surprised me compared to the NHK viewer statistics for the last quarter of the show. I think those said something like 80 plus percent of viewers were guys.

But yeah. There's understandable reasons. Just an interesting number gap.

Yeah. It's not bad, and it mostly looks nice, but it didn't feel like it added much, especially if you've read the manga before.

Just finished bringing things back to the start.

Also, looking over the poll again, I think my favorite small detail is that Cima is much more popular than Kou. Nineteen whole places.

As a Mack Knife main, no, it is not, but I love it anyway because it's a weird mishmash of random garbage that provides a completely unique experience.

Mask is also the hypest pilot in the entire franchise, even beating out people like Gym Ginganam and Graham Aker. One of the Mack Knife's vocal lines for landing a super is literally just an 8 second clip of Mask laughing pompously.

So we have Strike Freedom and Freedom in the Top 10, but no Gundam Double X? A shameful display.

I'm impressed that Gouf Custom made it into the Top 15, considering how old 08th MS Team is and how short it is.

And wow - Graham didn't just get more votes, he's in the Top 5.

But the fact that Corin Nander didn't even get into the Top 100 is the real shame.

Here's the Top 15 100 instead. Given the weird, non-Japanese names most mobile suits have their names in katakana, which are fairly basic and even beginners to Japanese can translate accurately. That being said, there are some curveballs that take some Japanese to divine/draw an accurate inference (for example, Hyaku Shiki's name is entirely in Japanese, and parts of the GP03 are also in Japanese. But if you know Gundam, that's not difficult to figure out). I'll come back periodically to add more for fun.
