I did a class on criminal justice (which means I think I'm more qualified a lawyer than most of the resistance) with a black professor, and at one point we were talking about biases in juries and all. Naturally some white dude was all 'well don't a lot of black people just assume black people are innocent, like a lot believe OJ is innocent still' and the guy just laughs and says 'no he for sure did it, we were just happy for once the courts had to follow actual due process and couldn't just point at a large black man and say 'well come on, he clearly did it'. It actually led to a pretty good talk about the prosecutor's actual job vs what most actually do and talking about cases where people lost slam dunk cases because they failed to prove their case beyond just going 'come on, we all know'. It's really a shame how much crime shows hosed up people's view of the law because yea there's tons of cases where you should 'celebrate' someone getting off even if we all know they did it because it's actually probably way worse for society to have a justice system where people can just wink knowingly at the jury than it is to have OJ Simpson doing his dumbass sports memorabilia scams and all.
