Someone described driving in Monaco (I know not the same but another city course) as riding around in your living room on a bicycle. I seem to remember him saying something like is popular with fans for the spectacle of racing through a city, but with drivers it was poo poo because there's no opportunity to pass.

That first still shot is a once in a lifetime shot right there. Not only was he able to follow it through the lens, but the autofocus did it's job too with a very shallow depth of field. I had a money shot like that once lined up and the autofocus let me down, talk about a total bummer.

I managed to photograph a motogp crash several years ago, it was a weird moment of clarity. I pulled zoom as I realized the rider was going down, tracked the bike as it cartwheeled through the gravel, and had a couple pretty good frames of the bike disintegrating. Nothing as career defining as that photo though, it was pretty much just a bike and nothing else. But I'll assume that's how it went for this guy too. With the added bonus of a giant raging boner as he checked the preview on his camera. The last few laps of that race were great fun, 2nd and 3rd place collided and they both went down, giving the podium away to the next two in line. Autofocus on professional SLRs is really really good. Even if can nail the focus manually under normal conditions, you probably can’t at 14 frames per second with the mirror flapping up and down like a hummingbird’s wings.

No you goof, the tires go UNDER the bike. Does Formula E not use slicks? I'll have to start watching it if they're limiting grip, slippy cars are so much more fun to watch because driver skill becomes more apparent. Shame the cars are so ugly.

This shot right here could have made me a lot of money. Capital One Bowl, LSU vs Iowa, hail mary pass at the end of the game for the win with seconds left. I anticipated the play and was in perfect position, however my camera decided to gently caress off.  And in contrast, a good one where it worked perfectly.  So although cameras are much better these days, it's still about anticipating whats going to happen, being in the right spot and praying the autofocus pulls through at the right time. It's horrendous. poo poo cars on poo poo tires running on poo poo, narrow rear end street tracks does not make for good or exciting racing. The small bit of excitement that does happen is due to the narrow rear end tracks, and being unable to move. It's like watching Macau and Monaco over and over, without even the visceral experience. I would rather watch livestreams from Sarah Fischers go kart track than that series.
