jfc Aurum Vale is the hardest dungeon I've played so far. We wiped twice (and almost a third time) against the second boss but bless that tank for killing it while we were dead

It's nice that with the new BTN and MIN offhands, i don't need buff food anymore to pass the minimum 1350 perception for HQ on 3 star nodes. It's not quite as nice that i still need to gather over 400 items from timed nodes (some of those on the same node and mutually exclusive) and spend like 2500 creation at minimum to craft the rest of the gatherers' and crafters' tools. Not to mention the ~5000 yellow crafter scrip materials i need. I haven't even started counting the materials i'll need for the new crafter/gatherer armor. Just the tools so far. This is gonna take a while.

I just capped the last of my DoH at the tail-end of 4.2 and I'd like to work on better gearsets for DoH/DoL. All I have right now are the i330 mainhands for DoH specialists, i300 mainhands for DoL, and the two i290 armor sets. Are there any gear progression guides out there, or should I wait a bit for the 4.3 dust to settle?

It's basically Angra Mainyu except the arena effect is persistent and the stacks build over time. Watch the icon above your head, it'll go through half a lunar cycle(New to Full or Full to New depending on which Influence you are in) before putting Doom on you. You can reset the cycle and clear Doom by just switching over to the opposite side. The circles you have to stand in are there to trip up people who are sitting in one side too long. When they appear, just go to the other side. You have plenty of time.

Just finished up the main story quests. Like, Mystery Elf Man is so obviously Zenos from the way he was like "shall I use this chance to become a better person? gently caress that noise, the HUNT MUST CONTINUE" and Shadowhunter is most obviously Gaius not only from the slow pan on his old Legate Mask, or the fact that he fights exactly like a Legate, but also because he identifies Alphinaud as a Scion pretty much immediately. Just finished the 4.3 MSQ. This is a significant step up from 4.1 and 4.2 and goes a long way towards moving Stormblood closer to the standard that Heavensward set. Good stuff.

Just finished my first shot at Ridorania with one minute left on the clock. Considering this alliance had spent nearly an hour wiping to MathMan, I was kind of impressed they were able to down the last boss in two pulls (only wiped the first time due to the unexpected Hashmal mechanic).

the only explanation for why the story is so much better that I could possibly conceive of is that lyse was one of the story writer's pets or something and everyone was forced to write around that because now that we've moved on the story has considerably improved. or maybe it's just a coincidence.

It's a coincidence. We're being set up for something more important there. People hated the Hien/Gosetsu/Tsuyu situation just as much before the whole story was told. I mentioned this in the general FF thread but don't memory hole past reactions to things so those of us who are constantly rolling our eyes at people comparing a finished story to an unfinished one. Early HW patch content was pretty dire, with how awkwardly they were filling in holes with the Warriors of Darkness and what happened to Urianger and Minfilia all of a sudden--but it all worked out well.
