Alien: Isolation actually managed to be really scary just by spacing their save points out. There were no checkpoints, you had to dart from phone to phone while that stupid nine foot bastard just would not go away. There was a constant threat of losing a chunk of your progress if you did something dumb.

I went ahead and played through Layers of Fear the other day. It was a fun little haunted house adventure, I guess. Some of the "scares" ended up being super funny though, like when you open a door to a close up of a face and turn around and there is an extremely tiny version of that portrait on the wall behind you made me laugh.DeathChicken posted:Alien: Isolation actually managed to be really scary just by spacing their save points out. I got halfway through a video of the uncensored stuff for Agony before it got removed from YouTube lol. It really is some edgelord poo poo and it makes me glad that I didnt try the game. AO rating is still nearly a ban. You can still sell it but brick-and-mortar stores (as increasingly irrelevant as they're getting) will not stock it. It just cuts into their bottom line and marketing folks will fight it. It's kind of like how a lot of films try to edge away from R rating because hitting R is shown to cut into their profits due to how it limits their market. edit: On rereading your post I see now you're complaining more about how they're treating it as censorship which is indeed dumb but oh well I already posted it.

These Eastern European devs need to adopt the Japanese naming model, rather than the picking a random phrase from a random metal song model.
