I'm sure it's been brought up in this thread before, but I just watched The Florida Project on Amazon Prime US.

Holy cow, this is an excellent movie, honestly one of the best I've seen this year. Everyone does excellent, but Brooklynn Prince is a powerhouse.

I've never heard of that film but it has it's own wikipedia page of accolades. That's a good sign.

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
I don’t really care one way or another about Gilbert Gottfried, but the Gilbert doc on Hulu is outstanding. I know it’s been out for a while, but a friend just introduced me to it today.

Say word son.
The Florida Project was super boring and should have been called "Lets smoke cigarettes and abuse children in ways they won't even understand until they are much older."

Artistically I guess I get people liking it, but it was far from entertaining for me.

I don't think he said it was a poo poo film, just not entertaining for him. Like, I don't enjoy horror movies (at all! Unless it's a tongue-in-cheek comedy like Tucker and Dale and even that was a stretch) but it doesn't mean horror films are bad. Just not for me.

Anyone else having issues with Netflix? I can watch 5-15 minutes of something, then it stops and the error on the screen says the selection is no longer available for streaming. It does it on multiple devices (all Roku, though) and does it with every single thing we try to watch.

I watched The Lobster on Amazon the other day. It was delightful. My favorite scene was probably the aftermath of that woman jumping out the window and just moaning in agony for way too long. The single person/couple reenactments were pretty great too. I think it probably could have been a bit shorter, the second half went on a bit long. But overall I loved it. It’s great when a movie feels like it’s specifically made for me.

How is Alps? I’ve seen Dogtooth and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, but I haven’t heard anything about this one.

two ep's into the first season of Goliath and I like it so far - does this get bad? This seems like a show that starts off well and then falls apart.

It doesn't fall apart exactly, but it gets increasingly ridiculous, so if you're really expecting a really serious legal drama you might be disappointed.

(I haven't watched the second season.)

Can someone who has watched season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale let me know if it's worth finishing? The wife and I enjoyed season 1 but got 3 episodes into season 2 and when June gets recaptured we just both lost interest in the show. We don't want to watch another 7 episodes of a woman being abused if the story just keeps revolving around torture.

If the story moves beyond that I might be willing to convince her to stick with it.

My wife and I had the exact same thought, but I would encourage you to stick with it. If anything that despair is exactly the point of where Season 2 is now going to take you — how would you react if you were in the same spot? They very quickly find a good balance of more backstory and twists that will probably get you re-engaged. And it generally takes it easy on the physical torture (nothing as intense as the second season premiere, for example).

So yeah, I would keep going. Elizabeth Moss is so much fun to watch. Not to mention there are a couple "Holy poo poo!" moments in the next few episodes, and unlike Season 1 I found every episode so far to have something worthwhile (even if they're all about 10 minutes too long).

Hope I don't lead you astray!

The series is liberal torture porn, it's the goal of the show. If that aspect of it bothers you, it's ok to stop watching it.

Me and the boys on the way to kill another demon god
The Handmaid's Tale is a show where I found it hard to sustain investment in its 2nd season, right alongside The Crown and 13 Reasons Why. I wish they'd stop continuing stories that are popular for the sake of continuing them. I was told the book stops at the end of the 1st season, so I was perplexed that the 2nd season even exists at all.

I think season 2 of Handmaid's Tale is very good so far but it is definitely very different from the first season.

I don't see it as a cynical money grab though. The showrunner had talked to Atwood about doing multiple seasons from the beginning. It was always the plan to do more than one season.

White Bummer Media has a long and storied history, which Handmaid's Tale fits nicely into. When you always feel like something's wrong that you can't quite place it's a kind of comfort to watch outrageous horrors enacted on children and minorities, because then you have a solid explanation for why you feel so lovely right before bed.

Olivia Colman is a fine choice, and I understand the need to re-cast given that they're trying to do roughly a decade each season, but, man, I wish Foy and Smith had more time, because they both killed it.

Whoa, I didn’t notice that when I watched, but I was fixated on Karamo’s hair line too. I was like ‘That’s the cleanest edge-up I’ve ever seen!’

I think it was recently, but the Nic Cage classic Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans is on Prime now.
