It's something that really shits me because there was a famous case when I was growing up of a current affairs show putting a fake "video camera" overlay and some static and shake effects over the footage from one of their own cameras. One of their news vans caught someone being almost beaten to death, recorded the whole thing from the window of the van, but didn't call the cops or try to help in any way because they didn't want to interrupt their 'story' and pretended the tape was sent to them anonymously by a member of the public. Then a witness to the attack told police they saw the news van there on the night and all kinds of poo poo hit the fan.
